Can you react a historical movie: "The 800', which is compared to 300. In 1937, after the fall of Peking, a small group of Chinese soldiers, from a division, trained and equipped, by Germany, 2 years before WW2, is ordered to fight to the death, in a warehouse, near the international area in Shanghai, against the Japanese invasion.

This is a REMAKE of another Anti-war movie made before WW2. Both are great, this one is less caricatural.

Incredible reaction, this was my second time seeing this after a few years and it was even more heavy.
I was moved by Yuri's first (on channel) reaction to a war movie, Tien calling out the haunting soundtrack building towards horror and Lan talking about the contrast of the elite militiary class and the common infantry experience.
I was especially moved by them understanding the dread of the tank counterattack, as that was the first deployment of never before seen machines of war, and their reaction to the incredibly horrifying scene of Paul and the French soldier in the muddy crater.
One of your best reactions yet Asian Angels!

Good choice. You might live the movie Atomic Blonde (2017).

In my opinion, this is one the best war movies ever made. It should have won every Academy Award. The scene of Paul in the artillery hole with the French soldier was one of the most powerful scenes of cinema. He should have won a best supporting actor award for that death scene. What a great performance.
That German general was such an asshole and he sent many hundreds to die in futility only because of his hubris. The war was already over and he did not care. Such a dick.
Thank you for this reaction Angels. It is always a pleasure to watch a movie with you.

A German movie, what a surprise.
Someone else has already written a good commentary on the history of the First World War.
This war was cruel in its own way, the first war in which fighting was industrialized.
I would say, as brutal as the movie is, in reality it was much worse, and then there was the Eastern Front where conditions were even more worse.
This general, every time he's on screen I just want to punch him in the face. From his story, you can tell that he comes from a military family; it was probably through nepotism that he rose to officer rank. In any case, he never saw a battlefield himself.
And then he needlessly sends young men into the meat grinder of trench warfare for his own ego.
There really were men like that, and the sad thing is, most of them didn't get what they deserved after the war.
I was going to suggest another war movie, but I think this one was depressing enough.
How about a positive movie. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a great comedy-drama starring Ben Stiller.
That was an awesome reaction Angels, as always.💜

I think it was not wise to assign "war guilt" on Germany.

Hi angels, i discovered the movie with you. and yes it's very hard even thou i more or less knew what will come.
i'm from Belgium. the major parts of my country was invaded by german during the war and we fought alongside frenchs, british and(in the end) americans. So we learned very early in school about WWI and 2. In almost each comunes, we have statues or any kind of monument whith the names of the inhabitant who died as soldiers in battles or executed during those wars.
With school, we also goes where the trench was. We did goes in the battelfield of Somme where 1.2 millions died in one battle who lasted for months. trenches and shell impact are still visible and some trenches wasrebuild for memory duty ( they'rent profound, almost 2m high). If they want to cut grass, they had to use sheep, in case of shell still may explode.
Just a few other informations for your knowledge. german did had technology when the war started on june 1914. They had artillery more powerfull and better logistics (they even are the first one to use mustard gas in trenches (this gas is burning you lungs)) and everybody had planes to scout . but they had to fight on two front (also agains russians who were amongst the allies until the communist revolution make them stop). When germans was stopped and begun to retreat, they build trenches to preprare to attack again. But french and bristish didn't succeed to breach the trenches , so they build theirs own and everybody was stuck in trenches and didn't knew how to change the situation until the end of the war. The british invented tanks to breach the trenches in 1917(and the french made their own). the germans could'nt because of the blockcade of theirs trading ports by the allies( they didnt had the ressource to do them).
We also called ww1 for a time "the war to end all war" because nobody thaught we coud do worse. and the young one going to war almost happy is true on both side . they're a saying they go to war " la fleur au fusil" (the flower on the rifles!). so yeah, nbody believed this war will be this awfull.
one thing very true, is when the negotiators says "the german people will not like this peace". the economy of germany was broken (one bread was 0.63 marks in 1918 and 200 billions in 1923 !!!!). every germans looked for traitors (of course, they choose the jews because of their wealths ). the terms of the peace made possible the births of the nazis and the rise of Hitler (who fought during the war) and prepare the second world war.
Sorry if the comment is too long. but i really wanted to share it with you. I may not cried but i did loose my breath and was furious when I see the dates and that the generals sitll wanted to attack.
Please take care of yourself. You really need it after this one. see you next time and i hope with a more joyfull one .

I was required to read the book in highschool. The movie is a decent film 👍🏼. A World War 1 film that I HIGHLY recommend is "1917"
