The Future

I've alluded a couple times in the past about some future plans that I've been mulling over in my head, and I figured it was time to start putting it down on paper and starting to make it more real.

Right now, my life consists of:

The reality is, unfortunately, that due to work, BearBoss is basically relegated to evenings and weekends and time off. This has worked for me for a long time, and this whole endeavour has allowed me to bring these characters and stories to life, and to get to play and create. I know I don't say this enough, but THANK YOU ALL for making this possible.

Well, I've been in the process of figuring out how I can make a bit more time for BearBoss, and I think I'm in a position now where I can seriously, like for reals, contemplate stepping back from my full-time work down to part time, so that I can dedicate some more daylight hours to BearBoss and hopefully free up a couple of evening and weekend hours.

I've broached the subject with my team and my bosses and they all are quite supportive. There are a few questions that remain in terms of how it might affect my benefits, and if things don't work out, if I could go back to being full time. It might take a couple of weeks or a months to figure those answers out (HR, amirite?)

The thing is, I love my work, I love the career that I have, and l have a hard time wanting to step back from that completely, especially since, let's be honest, a regular paycheque with benefits is a hard thing to want to give up.

BUT, I also recognize that I only have so many hours in a week, and I'd like to work a little less so I can create a little more, you know?

Is this risky? Yeah, it really is. A 20% pay cut is not something to take lightly. Almost every penny that I've made from BearBoss has been reinvested back into BearBoss. It's allowed me to upgrade from a shitty USB mic to a proper large-condensor XLR mic with a proper audio interface. It's allowed me to pay script writers and artists and other voice actors. It's allowed me to pay for the software that I use (fuck you Adobe) so that I can do this all legit and above board. It's also meant having to pay for things like accountants and lawyers and graphic designers and editors.

If all I was spending your support on was rent men and nose candy, I probably wouldn't be posting the quality content that I made now, and you probably wouldn't be supporting me. (Side note: this is not an endorsement of nose candy)

But I'm at the point now where I can seriously consider leaving some of that sweet salary money on the table and dive more head first into this crazy, insane little world I've carved out here with your support.

Ideally too, with the joys of economies of scale, if I can keep growing this audience, I'd also like to LOWER the price of some tiers.

GASP. I bet you've never heard a creator say that before. But the truth is, the cost of the spicy stuff is a bit of a big ask, and I would guess it's a barrier for a lot of folks. I keep trying to do the math of, "If I drop my price (permanently) by X$, would I gain Y subscribers such that the price difference of the lost revenue would at least be the same?" I am not a business person. If any of you are and have suggestions, I'm all ears.

Apologies for the long post, but with the Noah script almost finished, I still had some writing juice left in me, and I don't want to say I'm manic, but I'm definitely full of energy and creativity and possibility.

Oh, I also have to finish my business plan. Which I have been working on for MONTHS at this point. Anyone here good at writing them??

Lots of love,

BearBoss.
