Charlies Angels (A Hazbin Hotel AU): Part 1&2

Quick Author's Note: This is an odd one that my muse decided I should right. And who am I to argue with my muse? She's fickle enough as it is. The idea is that usually, when we see the Exorcists, they're a faceless enemy. it's easier to call them 'evil' if they have no face, no personality. They might as well be mindless drones save for Lute or Vaggie. I wanted to explore what would happen if they actually had personalities and the like, and how they'd react to Vaggie being tortured and banished. Vaggie would have had friends, people who'd be concerned. Or, even those who didn't know Vaggie, they'd be concerned over how she was treated. Or who didn't like being an Exorcist, and now see a way out. Each chapter will be of a different group or solitary exorcist who decides to defect to Charlie.

In part 2, I'll warn I'm not very happy with the section for month 6... That one will probably need a bit of a rewrite.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preamble

Since our creation, we’ve been given many rules, but only one that we’ve given ourselves. ‘Watch out for one another, for we are all we have.’

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Within the Hierarchy of Heaven, the Exorcists were often considered a separate and distinct entity.

They weren't regular souls, born and raised on Earth. Nor were they on the level of a Seraphim, despite having been created by them.

The purpose of their creation was to serve as soldiers within Adam’s army, to maintain the Order through the slaying of those who had fallen into hell. To keep the population down.

The Exterminations.

Their relationship with the rest of Heaven was strained. Their very existence was fundamentally different, their purpose obscured. While not strictly forbidden, it was simply…. Easier, to keep to themselves.

And that was fine. They were created to defend Heaven, not to interact with it. And they had each other! For all intents and purposes, they were sisters. Their own family.

While they were created fully grown, they still needed time to ‘grow up’. Not physically, but emotionally and intellectually. Thus, each generation, as new Exorcists were created, the older generation would take a younger batch of sisters under their wings.

There were easily enough Exorcists to create their own community. It wasn’t like Sinners could hurt Exorcists, so they didn’t even have to worry about losing anybody either.

There were issues of course. Problems. Arguments. But they never lost sight of one simple fact:

No matter what happened, they would always have each other.

It was a simple fact, drilled into each and every Exorcist, from generation to generation. A comfort and a blessing. It was a part of the foundation of their belief, something that could never be violated.

Until the day it was.

The day an exorcist was cast out from Heaven by one of their own, their halo and wings ripped away. By their leader, who they’d been trained from birth to obey and revere.

That day, the foundation of the exorcists' belief cracked, and nothing would ever be the same.

Thus marked the beginning of the end of the Exorcist Army.

PART 2

The Fledglings

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

“It was so sudden. The older Exorcists were going off for yet another Extermination. We saw Vaggie just that morning. She gave each of us a smile and a hug, teased Harmony about doing her chores, and told us she’d see us later that evening.”

“That evening, we watched as the Exorcists came back and we looked for Vaggie. Sister after sister flew by, but none of them were our big sister.”

“And then Lute flew through the portal. Golden blood splattered across her uniform. And in her hands, a halo and wings, both coated in blood.”

That evening, we were told we would never see our older sister ever again.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Verity's PoV

Vaggie was gone.

Fallen.

Verity shook her head, hearing yet unable to understand.

Adam and Lute had held an assembly immediately after the Extermination. Declared the news. Vaggie had aided a Sinner, and to do so went against their very purpose.

The thought still felt… Wrong. No matter how many times Verity ran it through her head. She found herself shivering unconsciously, wanting to throw up as she remembered how Lute described it. How she brandished the wings and halo in disgust.

It didn’t make sense.

Vaggie was so… Good. Devoted. Driven. Nice. She wouldn’t fall - it didn’t make sense.

Not to her, nor any of her sisters.

Verity took a deep breath and looked around.

Rhapsody sat huddled in a chair, looking incredibly small. Harmony was listlessly sweeping the floor. Lefty and Righty were sitting together, wings covering themselves, while Amore paced restlessly.

Scarlet, Ardena, Jean, and Lael were out interrogating other Exorcists, trying to find out more, while Meridian and Celeste were flying in the track for the need to do something.

Vaggie had been the one to take their batch of twelve under her wing once they were first created. She protected them, taught them, trained them…

And now she was gone.

Worse, she was in Hell.

“We… We have to do something.” Rhapsody murmured softly. “This… They must have made a mistake.”

Verity didn’t want to say anything, but nobody else was, so she gave a shaky breath. “Adam and Lute seemed pretty sure. I mean, they took her… Her halo.”

She tried to say ‘wings’, but she couldn’t. Not without the urge to throw up.

“But they won’t even tell us what she did!” Rhapsody protested weakly.

“That must mean it’s pretty bad.” Lefty murmured, folding in on herself.

“Or that they think it is.” Righty added, her wings lowering to drape over Lefty. “I don’t like how Lute looked when she was talking.”

“Guys, I-I know we don’t like Lute right now, but let’s not accuse anybody of that.” Lute told them Vaggie had fallen. As much as it hurt, if Lute said it, it had to be true, right?. “Remember, this is Vaggie. Yeah, she might be banished, but if anybody could survive in Hell, it would be her, right?”

“She was hurt real bad though.” Rhapsody whimpered with tears in her eye, no doubt recalling the adverse pleasure Lute had taken in describing how she had wounded Vaggie before leaving her.

Still, Verity tried to hold strong. Somebody had to keep everybody together. “W-well, even if she’s hurt, it’s not like they can do anything to her.”

Sinners couldn’t kill Angels, that was an undeniable fact.

Harmony scoffed, her sweeping slowing down, “If they’re telling the truth about that. After all,” Behind her eyes, a fire seemed to spark. “They told us we’d always have each other’s back, and look what happened.”

Everybody flinched, and Verity hastily interjected, “No! It’s, look, we haven’t lost an Exorcist since the Exterminations began, right? And Sinners have been trying real hard.”

If it could happen, it would have happened.

“But there are worse things than death, aren’t there.” Amore finally stopped her pacing, putting her back to the wall and sliding down,” Like, we can still be restrained, can’t we? Trapped?”

The thought of Vaggie, bleeding, chained in some basement with some creepy Overlord laughing over her…

Rhapsody burst into tears, and Verity gave up on talking as she quickly gave the young Exorcist a hug. The others became even gloomier.

This was hard. Like, really hard. But they’d make it through. Vaggie wouldn’t want them to be sad all the time, she’d want them to be happy.

They’d make it through this, she was sure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three month mark

They couldn't make it through this.

After that horrific day, things didn’t improve.

They didn’t get a new ‘big sister’. There was an air of hesitation around the other Exorcists. Like they weren’t sure how to handle the fledglings trained by one who was now Fallen.

This sort of thing hadn’t ever happened before, so nobody knew how to deal with it.

Some sisters gave their sympathy. Others looked at them with suspicion, as if suspecting they’d be the next to snap. Amore and Jean were usually called out for nearly starting fights when people gave those looks.

It nearly became an all out brawl when a couple angels questioned how effective Vaggie’s training of them was, or if she truly cared for them.

Vaggie might be banished, but she loved them. They refused to let anybody tarnish that!

The twelve of them were all different as well. Gloomier. Angrier. They stopped laughing as much, and were more protective of each other. Meridian had forcibly implemented a buddy-system amongst them, even within the training grounds (not that any of them argued).

And then there were the nightmares.

Rhapsody had them worst, but Verity had no doubt they all experienced them to a degree or other.

Nightmares about Sinners were normal enough. But now, these nightmares had a direction.

Perhaps it would have been better had Vaggie died. Then they wouldn’t have to be tormented with the knowledge that she could be imprisoned, tortured by some faceless thug. In pain, in need of help…

And here they were, doing absolutely nothing!

But Verity pushed on. She smiled and helped her sisters and encouraged them as best as she could.

She wants to live up to what Vaggie wanted for them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Six month mark

“Verity!”

Verity looked up, confused at the sight of Rhapsody. For the first time in a long time her eyes were actually bright in excitement.

“What’s up? Are you feeling alright?” Verity asked in concern.

“I’m fine! But I had an idea!” Rhapsody was practically vibrating. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while.” The girl took a deep breath. “I want to find Vaggie.”

“What?!” Verity shot up, instinctively looking around to make sure nobody was around hiding in the corners of their barracks. “What do you mean?”

“Look, we’re all miserable!” Rhapsody waved her arm around the barracks. “We’re scared of what happened to Vaggie, and Lute and Adam clearly don’t trust us.”

Verity wanted to fight against that statement, but she really couldn’t.

“So the answer is simple!” Rhapsody gave a beaming smile. “We just need to find her ourselves and protect her!”

“Uhm, there are a couple issues with that.” Verity said cautiously. “First off, the only way a portal is open is during Extermination, and we’re still too young for that.”

“Psh, if we ask Adam I’m pretty sure he’d waive that rule.” Rhapsody dismissed.

Be that as it may…

“Hell is a big place, how would we find her?” Verity asked next.

“I thought of that too - we’ll ask Lucifer!” Rhapsody beamed as Verity coughed violently at that. “He’s a fallen angel as well, right? Surely he’d know about other Fallen.”

Sure. Ask the King of Hell. For help. Why not?

“And then what?” Verity asked, “We’d have so little time to do anything before we’re going back.”

“Yeah, but we’ll have enough time to free Vaggie if anybody’s actually captured her!” Rhapsody stared at Verity with wobbling lips, and Verity wanted to give in so badly, because she wanted Vaggie to be safe as well… But she can’t - Vaggie wouldn’t want them to place themselves in danger for her.

“And what if we don’t have enough time.” Verity asked gently, hand coming up to cars through the other girl’s hair. “You might get stuck down there if you run out of time.”

Rhapsody looked at her sadly, “Would that be so bad?” She asked quietly.

Verity nearly choked. “Bad? Bad?! Rhapsody, it’s Hell!”

Rhapsody shrugged. “I mean, it hasn't exactly been Heaven up here, the last year.” She explained quietly. “And so long as we’re all together… Would that be so bad?”

There were so many things Verity wanted to say. To reject. And yet… Well, Rhapsody wasn’t exactly wrong.

Besides… Just because they’d be in Hell, that didn’t mean they’d have to be bad, right? They could just, exist. Live… she wasn’t sure.

Verity stared at the determination in her sister before sighing. “We’ll have to run it by everybody else first.” She stated. “Whatever we do, it’s got to be unanimous. I won’t leave anybody behind.”

They broached the topic that evening.

It was unanimous - they’re going to Hell and save Vaggie.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nine month mark

Verity and her sisters waited outside of Adam’s office, each of them a nervous wreck. When Scarlet finally came out, they instantly swamped her.

“Well?”

“What did he say?”

“Did you do it?!”

Scarlet gave a tired laugh as she pushed her sisters aside. “Don’t worry, I said I’d get permission didn’t I? Well, looks like we’re gonna be the youngest Exorcist's to go on an Extermination lady’s!”

They all erupted into cheers.

In the last three months, their entire demeanor had changed. Now, they had a purpose.

Training non-stop. Going over records and reports on Overlords, their territory, and various other threats they could find.

“How’d you get Adam to agree?” Verity asked.

Scarlett shrugged, wings bobbing. “I just spent, like, twenty minutes ranting about how much we hated Sinners and threw a bunch of swear words in.” She replied. “Not gonna lie, I kinda phased out after five minutes. Probably looped it a couple times. But Adam was impressed enough to say he wanted to see what we could do.”

They laughed and jostled Scarlet, teasing her, and Verity just gave a warm smile.

For as crazy as everything was getting…

It actually felt right.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

One year mark

“Alright ladies! It’s our favorite time of year again!” Adam gave a vicious grin. “Remember, kill every sinner you see, and have fun!”

The portal began to open, and Verity felt her nerves light up in excitement.

Her sisters and her stuck close together as they dove through the portal, hot air engulfing them in a sudden surge…

And suddenly they were in Hell.

Pictures and description did not do it justice, and for a moment they hovered in place, looking at the sheer size of the place and the buildings.

How were they supposed to find Vaggie in all this?!

Still, Verity pushed through. “Lael! Celeste! Take the lead. We’re heading to the Morningstar residence.”

Those two immediately shot forward, and they flew after as the sounds of screams filled the air behind them.

They ignored it.

Within moments, the dozen Exorcists stood in front of an imposing mansion, and Verity gulped.

“Last chance to back out girls.” She informed the others.

Nobody moved.

Verity looked at her sisters reassuringly before reaching out and knocking on the door of the third most powerful person in Hell.

Nothing happened for the longest moment. Verity could practically feel the awkwardness as a dozen Exorcists all stood in front of a mansion while the screams of Sinners echoed in the background.

Just as Verity considered knocking on the door once more, she heard the sound of multiple locks before the door cracked open and they saw the daughter of the devil for the first time.

Verity hadn’t actually thought about what Princess Morningstar, Princess of Hell and Daughter of the Devil, actually looked like. She remembered Lute one time ranting about her being as ‘ugly as sin’ once, with a heart as black as her fathers, but that was about it.

Looking at the princess now, Verity had to admit that if that was true, then ‘sin’ was a lot prettier than she had expected.

“You guys aren’t allowed inside the residences of hellborn.” Charlotte Morningstar told them firmly, refusing to open the door more than she had to as she gave them a glare.

“We’re aware, your highness.” Verity quickly said, giving a bow that each of her sisters replicated, “we came to ask you for a favor.”

The formality and the request took the Princess by surprise, the frown going away. “A favor?” She asked as she opened the door further.

“Last year, an Angel was banished during the Extermination.” Verity hastily explained. “My sisters and I wish to… To find her.”

The princess’s expression morphed into shock at the admission, opening the door even more. Still cautious, but willing to talk at least.

“An Angel? Banished?” Princess Morningstar shook her head, “I-I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware of this. Why weren’t we told? But if that’s true, why would you care?”

Verity frowned. “Because she’s our sister.” She replied firmly, that statement echoed by the others behind her.

Internally, Verity was despairing. This was their only lead. If the Princess hadn’t heard of an Angel, then how could they find Vaggie?

Just as Verity was about to say something more, they heard a voice behind the Princess.

“Verity?”

Verity and all of her sisters froze at the sound of a voice they hadn’t heard in a year and had feared they wouldn’t hear again.

The princess turned around, and behind her…

Vaggie

Her skin was grayer, her hair longer, wearing an eyepatch with an ‘X’ over one eye, but they could never mistake her.

And she was alive. Blessedly, completely, alive!

“Vaggie, what -“ the princess was about to say something more, only to shriek as a dozen bodies forced the door open and flew past her.

Before anybody could react, Vaggie was suddenly dogpiled by a dozen Exorcists, all of them sniffling and crying in relief as they hugged her.

They had found their sister once more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie’s POV

Exorcists visiting her home was… a new thing.

Normally a bad/new thing, to clarify. Since she still had Vaggie with her - a sinner that was brutalized by exorcists just a year prior. Vaggie, who still had nightmares of the event, and was only just recovering physically.

Vaggie, who Charlie may or may not really want to ask out…

Just, uh, not yet. It was probably in bad taste to do so near the anniversary of her losing her eye

So Charlie had to figure out when an appropriate amount of time to wait for the perfect moment, which was torture!

Ah! But that wasn’t the point.

Charlie hasn’t expected Vaggie to speak up, to recognize the Exorcist, and for them to recognize her.

That had implications Charlie was almost positive she figured out, but didn’t want to assume anything until after she'd had a conversation with the person she been helping the last year.

And then a swarm of angels flew past her. Turning around she saw a pile of limbs, tears, and fluffy feathers, and suddenly she had a much larger concern.

There was a feather cuddle pile occurring right in front of her, and she wasn’t a part of it!

She wanted to be in on the feather cuddle pile!

But before Charlie could figure out what to say to interrupt the very emotional reunion in front of her, somebody behind her coughed.

Oh dear... More Exorcists.

Looking at these in comparison to the others, it made it even more clear that the first group had been young. Like, teenager young, and something in Charlie was furious that they were sending children to fight!

Ah! But she couldn't do anything about that because there were three Exorcists in front of her.

Charlie coughed and moved in front of the door, blocking the scene. "Can I help you three?"

Hey, if they couldn't see them, they might forget about them, right?

Each of the three took off their helmets and gave very crisp, formal bows.

"My name is Viola." The lead exorcist said. "I was wondering if I might look over Vaggie's wounds to make sure they were healing well."

... Huh?
