Channel Update - July 2024 - New video is decided

Hello there! I hope you are doing well.

GTA SA - Why planes crash [WIP name]

Right now there is a very high chance that it will be my next video. Previously I wrote about it here and here, so I won’t repeat too much details.

I put this video on hold, because I didn’t like the script I wrote. My concern was that the video felt very heavy and filled with boring terminology. Moreover, I had a strong feeling that the video is boring, so I decided to work on the video covering interesting facts instead.

After uploading my latest video, I opened this script again to see if I could fix the aforementioned issues. After some brainstorming back and forth, I think I finally found the solution.

The first change was to get rid of heavy terminology and huge chunks of text explaining it. For instance, it doesn’t really matter if I say that the plane A.I. navigates by detecting the collision (.col model) or by looking for an obstacle. Yes, the collision model is a much simplified version of a visual model, but 99% percent of people won’t really care. Still is an obstacle in a way or another. Better to keep things much simpler and not overload the viewer.

The second change was to improve the structure of this video. Now it feels more like an essay with a proper introduction and conclusion. I will start with introducing that people are frequently seeing plane crashes around the state. Then I will explain how this feature works in general in a way that you might think that everything should be okay. Then immediately after that I will talk about its flaws. This is where the viewer will understand how bad the things really are. And this section is huge. Then I will reveal what silly tricks R* implemented to minimize the crashes. And finally I will theorize if there was a way for them to fix this feature. Now I am very satisfied with it.

The third change was to add completely new information. Previously I kept that in mind without having a freaking clue where to put in the script.

The fourth change was to expand older parts with more juicy information. More bugs, more flaws and etc.

If previously the video seemed to be around 7 minutes at best now it should be around 17 minutes. That’s a huge boost. Abandoning this video in the past was definitely a good decision. On the other hand, it is still a risky video to make. I mean, would people watch a long video explaining one broken feature? No idea. I and Fire_Head have invested too much time into it. Would be too shameful to abandon the video at this point. For some reason, I have a strong passion to show you these findings. I think no one in the world would ever make a similar video. Yes, Obbe in the past explained its flaws, but the truth is, he is wrong with some facts. But no surprise in that as he developed it 20 years ago.

Right now, I am waiting for Fire_Head to proofread the script. Moreover, he said he wanted to look at some things more in detail. Who knows, maybe some parts will expand again. I also asked him to make more useful plugins, so it will probably take him some time.

In the meantime I have an idea to ask Obbe some questions about this feature. Perhaps it will help me to fill in some gaps and get rid of assumptions. But again, not sure if he would help much as people tend to forget about things over time.

So yeah, as you can see I am still working on the video and it goes pretty much smooth. If the video flops on views, then well, at least I tried.

Thank you for watching and supporting me. I hope to see you soon!
