This episode sure did take me by surprise. It was magical, wonderful, scary and tense. I am SO grateful that my Buffy journey has been unspoiled as I never know what to expect with each episode. Thank you to all for biting your tongues as I know it would be REALLY hard sometimes ๐
I've watched/reacted to the next episode so our journey into season 5 is not far off! It's truly been wonderful. And rewatching is only reinforcing my love for the show. I watched the Season 2 finale last night and it was as sad as I remember! I had forgotten what happened to Willow AND Giles! I might have to slow down on the rewatch as I'll be caught up soon ๐ฅน

2024-02-11 06:59:03 +0000 UTCLots of action movie references in this episode. The "Super Buffy" action scenes were heavily influenced by the first Matrix movie, which was released one year before. Also Adam reminds me of the Terminator, and the doves are probably a homage to John Woo's movies.

2024-02-10 04:49:40 +0000 UTCIirc the showrunners were never sure if there would be a new season and so the finale was always written as if it was going to be the last episode. However with this season they already knew that there would be a season 5 and so Joss, bored with the 2 part epic finale, wanted to try something different. I really enjoined this finale and the enjoining spell in particular, Willow's spellcraft has really come on this season under Tara's tutelage, and the combo Buffy with the voices of all the Scoobies was fun to watch. Looking forward to your reaction to the next episode finale!?!

2024-02-10 00:10:20 +0000 UTCI think Tara was not there because the joining spell, actually kind of becoming one entity, is probably an extremely intimate thing. While Tara and Buffy are friends they don't nearly have the connection that the rest of the group has. Also, I didn't think about it until recently but the final battle of Adam and Buffy is a fight between people and creatures forced together against their will (Adam) and people willingly joining together (Buffy). I love that dichotomy.

2024-02-09 23:33:02 +0000 UTCGreat not-actually-the-finale! Buffy looked like she was in the Matrix at the end there fighting Adam. Very cool! The scene with the government agents talking about how the experiment failed and to fill the initiative in with concrete always gives me a strong X Files vibe for some reason. Since you talked about Spike, I've always loved him ever since he first showed up, whether he's in full on evil mode or not, but it did seem to me that the writers didn't quite know where to take his character this season though. And also since you mentioned your rewatch is catching up, if you're ever looking for a show to watch in your free time I very much recommend Chuck. It has a lot of the same things you love about Buffy. Action, drama, comedy, great characters, great storylines, and just a whole lot of heart. (Also the actor who played Jayne in Firefly stars in it) I very much enjoyed your reaction to this one Juliette. Hope you have a great weekend.

2024-02-09 22:05:45 +0000 UTCI really like this not-quite-finale. The super-Buffy is just so cool. So is Adam, but the joined gang is cooler still. That fight is just epic. Tara being part of the spell would've been nice, but for the symbology it had to be the four core characters. And since you've already watched it, it's safe to say that I can't wait to see what you think of the next one!
