Like any true Aspergian, I have an obsessive-compulsive numbers of ideas of how I'd write the DC universe from start to finish if I ever got my druthers, sorting everything out so the continuity works, everyone gets satisfying character arcs, and the OTPs get endgames.
(Also, I'd get rid of the thing where a Justice Leaguer has to be on monitor duty at all times. I know it's so convenient for porn, but it's also dumb as heck. I'd read comics where Superman is sitting there while Katana fights a hurricane--I'm sure it's really fair for him to take his turn, but what's Katana gonna do, steal the hurricane's soul with her sword?)
My thinking on Black Canary in specific was to make her a decomposite character. Something that both comics canon and Arrow have done, but mine would be way less convoluted. (I think the comics transferred Momma Black Canary's brain into her daughter?) You'd have Laurel Drake, the original Black Canary with the Justice Society. Through timey-wimeyness, she'd end up with Green Arrow--a pairing I don't really like, but it's too canonical to really ignore.
But by a previous marriage, she'd have Dinah Lance, who would pretty much end up being 'the' Black Canary--on the Birds of Prey, doing naughty things with Barbara Gordon. I was also thinking of doing something with Sara Lance.
Usually I'm kind of blase about these TV/movie 'crossovers'--oh, look, Fitz Simmons showed up in a comic book--it seems like most of the attraction there is watching the actors perform their roles, so why would you want to look at drawings of the actors? But, yeah, Kryptonite started out in the Superman radio show and Superman flying came from the cartoons, so you should be able to take something from adaptations, so long as you don't get crazy and give Spider-Man organic webshooters so everything 'matches'.
Now I'm thinking okay--we have our original Black Canary in Laurel Drake. What if we said she had two legacy characters; Dinah Lance, who pairs up with Ollie and becomes the new Black Canary, and Sara Lance, who pairs up with Barbara as the White Canary? It'd be a little awkward in that no version of Sara and Barbara have ever actually met, but Sara is canonically bisexual, so that would make for less change-up from canon. Yeah, we'd have to change Barbara being straight, but her big het OTP is with Dick Grayson anyway, and I was planning for him to get together with Starfire, so anyone who cares that much is going to be disappointed anyway.
Okay, that's enough of me putting thought into this, I'm gonna do some real work.
