As long I'm dishing out hot takes

I've been waiting for Tom King's run on Mister Miracle to go on sale, but now that Comixology is offering a discount, I'm like--do I really want to give six dollars to Tom King after he Secret Empired Wally West?

I mean, is there any real disagreement that what they're trying to do with these stories is smear the old guys so that audiences flock to the new, cool legacy characters? Only all they really accomplish is making the original character a martyr. I'm not saying having Wally lose his powers and retire with Linda Park to raise his family would satisfy everyone--it's comics, people would still be asking for him to get the Speed Force back and have his own title, since that's what happened to Barry Allen--but at least it wouldn't make it so that whenever I see their hip new Wally West that has Synergy with the CW, I think "OH, that's the reason they ruined the REAL Wally. THANKS."

ETA: Even dying heroically like Barry Allen originally did is at least something. But shitting on a character by turning them into a Nazi or a school shooter--fuck off, comics. I know what the fuck you're doing.

Well, yes, there is dissagreement on that. What evidence is there that was the case with Wally? It's not as if Wally II has been particularly pushed or promoted. And what King has done is really just a more extreme version of what he did with Vision. No, what King was trying to say, was it was fucked from DC to essentially take away Wally's happy ending and murder his wife and kids to be their symbol of hope and then act as if that's awesome.

Damn text-based communication without body language and facial expression clues...

...pretty sure Mobo was being sarcastic

Coulda fooled me. I mean, Spidey makes an awesome mentor to younger heroes cos he's been where most of them are: trying to maintain a healthy balance between heroics and normal life. He doesn't quite succeed, but he grew up in a different time. The Fantastic Four have Franklin and Valeria going on adventures with them now. Spidey and MJ could've had something similar. Man, I miss MC2 Spider-Girl.

And Quesada has said he loves the Spider-Marriage.

"That said, I face this time and again, this is kind of what I do. I tear down heroes to their essential components and build them back up. I mean, to the first page in Mister Miracle, he's bleeding out, he's cut his own wrist. The first issue of Omega Man, Kyle Rayner gets his neck chopped open, the first issue of The Vision has his daughter being stabbed through the heart, right? So, hopefully people will see at the end of the day, we're doing the same thing with Wally. Wally hasn't had a successful solo comic since, when? 2003? What I'm saying is, the idea behind this is to elevate that character. Everyone is now talking about Wally. Everyone wants to see where Wally goes next. Everyone wants Wally to get the attention that that character deserves. He's my favorite Flash. He's my entry into DC comics -- The Flash #53 by Messner-Loebs and Larocque was my first DC comic. I love that character. I have a page above my desk of Wally from that Flash run and I think this, at the end of the day, will shine a spotlight on my character and put him at the center of the DC universe, in a place he hasn't been for 15 years." - King, from an interview with comicbook.com But...I mean, you don't have to Secret Empire your beloved character in order to make them relevant again
