I know people love making jokes about the symbiote being a jealous ex and Venom and Eddie being lovers, but honestly, I think there's so much canon psychosexual love triangle stuff in Spider-Man that doing it as subtext is kinda pointless (I mean, canonically Norman Osborn cuckolded Peter and knocked his girlfriend up. How much more weird-ass soap opera shit do you want?).

What would really be cool is treating the symbiote as a loyal dog. All it really wants to do is help Peter and make him better. It doesn't understand that by making him more aggressive, it's causing him to hurt innocent people or use unnecessary force. It's just being a good symbiote. So Peter rejecting it is more of an Old Yeller scenario.

I also think that instead of Venom being some Real Ultimate Doomsday Arch-Nemesis to Spider-Man... how long has that not been in the case in Spider-Man comics, anyway?... I'd make Venom into a sort of non-homoerotic, non-sexual-harassment Deadpool. He wants to be Spidey's best friend, he wants them to beat up bad guys together, but he just keeps killing people. It's taking the token evil teammate to a whole new level.
