It's a shame Marvel decided to turn Spider-Man into their generic YA high school franchise

Because when you think about it, that's not really in his wheelhouse. I mean, what iconic Spider-Man characters other than Peter do you have in high school? Flash Thompson. That's it. College is where he meets MJ, Gwen, and Harry, and the Daily Bugle is probably the iconic setting of Spider-Man. Picture in your head a random Spider-Man story. Now, which do you think is more likely--Peter going to the Daily Bugle or Peter going to high school?

Here's my pitch: Wolverine: Academy X. The main character is Kitty Pryde. She and a bunch of her friends are in a class taught by Wolverine. So you have a bunch of her friends and you can make them as diverse as you like, since there've been like a thousand X-kids and you can mix 'em up willy-nilly. I'd say keep Illyana Rasputin as Kitty's BFF; her brother Colossus is the youngest member of the proper X-Men team (which gets its own movies: Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and the like dealing with mutant shit) and Kitty crushes on him.

And you can basically do whatever you want. There are plenty of Young X-Men/New Mutants/Generation X stories to draw from (I think I actually might've forgotten one or two X-teams there). Kitty Pryde has plenty of solo stories. And obviously, Wolverine has a ton of stories, so you can write about Omega Red or Sabretooth coming to get him. I'm picturing a film that's mainly Sky High, with 'action sequences' of the kids trying to train, with a few real emergencies thrown in for spice. Maybe they sneak out for a night on the town and end up getting into a fight with an anti-mutant hate group, or have to rescue people from a natural disaster while the Uncanny team is busy. Then you have a big fight at the end against a real supervillain, sort of a final exams thing--Weapon X trying to get Wolverine back or something. I mean, it writes itself.

I do like that idea. In fact, I think it actually played into the Acts of Vengeance storyline when villains went after heroes they don't normally fight. The Avengers and Fantastic Four found themselves being attacked by guys like Shocker or Paste Pot Pete... and Spider-Man wound up fighting guys way out of his league like Graviton and Magneto.

God I loved that short arc where Sipderman taught a class at the Jean grey academy.

Love this.

Does anyone else think that in real life Spider-Man would kind of be pissed at the Avengers? Like they’re stationed in New York which attracts a bunch of Crazies which he has to deal with since most of them are even there most of the time! I also don’t get why he’s think of Tony(Aka the most irresponsible trust fund child ever) as a mentor. Then again Peter doesn’t really have the best record choosing mentors.

What's the pledge requirement to put you in charge of Marvel?

Sequel hook with new/rival headmistress Emma Frost etc
