Huh

With this publishing thing, it suddenly occurs to me that Thor is in the public domain. Yeah, the brother thing is Marvel's invention, so is Jane Foster, but by and large, you'd barely have to scrape the serial numbers off a Marvel!Thor story to make it just a Thor story. Give Thor red hair, you're pretty much done. 

Likewise, someone asked me about the implied Scott/Jean/Logan threesome that's now canonish in X-Men comics. I did a post a while aback on how oversexed most comic book characters are because writers are allergic to committed relationships, and how that takes away from a sense of realism in comics. Which I think is something to strive for if you don't want to be totally self-indulgent (and that's what fanfics are for, and there has to be something separating fanfics from cape comics besides a Marvel letterhead). 

(Sidenote: is it weird that Scott's, at least, emotional infidelity, leaving Madelyne for Jean and leaving Jean for Emma, gets more hate than Jean sorta, I don't know, leading Logan on or teasing him or whatever they have?)

To try to bring this back around on topic, I'm not against the throuple in concept--well, I am, because that's a horrible name--triad is a little better--I guess it's a quad, because how can you keep Emma out of this weird thing? It's better than doing some flailing thing like getting Jean together with Deadpool and having Scott date Dazzler because hey, we gotta throw new things against the wall, see if any of them stick at all. 

My main thing is that I'm not sure how in-character it is. Logan's a slut, so I guess that could translate to him being cool with an orgy. We could always say Jean is so Phoenix'd up that she'd be cool with being in a threesome as much as being married. Emma would be up for anything, although I could also see her being really possessive--when have she and Jean been on good enough terms to be in a relationship together (or, well, sharing men when they're both straight, as I think is still canon)?

Man, it's weird to think that Scott and Logan are in this wife-swapping thing and Logan isn't bringing anything to the table, he's just getting in on Scott's two bitches. 

Scott I would see as the most reluctant person to be part of a foursome, although I guess he could come around on the whole thing being healthier than a constant four-way love triangle between all of them. 'Yeah, okay, I'll be married to both Jean and Emma, Jean will have Logan on the side, no one's getting hurt, no one's being unfaithful--decreasing anxiety by an entire ten percent."

Although I'd really rather see that process than have it presented fait accompli? Not like that, but in terms of all of them hearing this idea proposed, coming around on it, and making it work. It seems like such an insanely dramatic thing to happen entirely off-screen, with no more signposts than Jean and Emma sharing a beer, and yet something like 'Mystique turns herself into a sexy student to see if Gambit will cheat on Rogue' gets to be on-panel. It's like if they restarted the Spider-Man comics with a new issue one, and when you read it, suddenly Peter is married to Gwen Stacy, who has come back to life, and Betty Brant is carrying a surrogate pregnancy for them. What?!? Where'd that come from? I thought we were actually telling a story here, not just throwing in smutty overtures for shock value. 

(I suppose that's why they're seemingly leaving Emma out. It'd be in-character for her to be involved, but are they as concerned with characterization as they are with doing something NEW and SHOCKING with the CLASSIC SCOTT AND JEAN AND LOGAN LOVE TRIANGLE which wasn't ever really a thing before the cartoon?)
