Hiya, babes! π
I've got something truly special for you today: a comprehensive tutorial on making flawless posters! I know a lot of simmers start their modding journey with custom paintings and it can feel a bit overwhelming at first.
But don't worry, I'm here to make everything crystal clear and show you just how easy it really is. With just a little guidance, anyone can create amazing CC right from the start! So, if youβve always wanted to make posters for The Sims 4 but didn't know how, this is your chance! π
I would love to hear your feedback on this tutorial! And feel free to share it with other simmers to help them create perfect posters as well!
Blender 3.3 (or newer)
Photoshop (or any image resizing tool you love)
Open Sims 4 Studio β Object β Create 3D Mesh β Select the Sole Star Athletic Poster
This poster is base game compatible and has no frames or other unnecessary details, making it an ideal reference.

Click the red "Make Buyable" button.
By default, this poster is available only after reaching level 5 in the Athlete Career, so we need to remove that restriction.

Click on the "Meshes" tab β Import Mesh β Choose the custom mesh that you want for your poster β Adjust footprint to fit mesh
Iβve created custom meshes for three orientations: vertical, horizontal and square. You can download them from the attachments and use them for your own creations. You don't have to credit me, but please share this tutorial with anyone who asks how to create similar posters!

Now this step simplifies the process greatly. Instead of tediously fitting images into existing textures, like you have to do in most poster tutorials, all you need to do is resize your images.
Use the following recommended sizes based on the poster orientation:
Horizontal:
High Quality: 2048x1024
Normal Quality: 1024x512
Vertical:
High Quality: 1024x2048
Normal Quality: 512x1024
Square:
High Quality: 1024x1024
Normal Quality: 512x512
Click on the "Texture" tab β Diffuse β Import your Image
Important: Ensure your image sizes are powers of two (512, 1024, 2048). This is necessary for the game to properly display your posters.

Name: Add a prefix to make it easier to find your posters in the buy menu.
Description: Get creative and add a quirky or fun description! Think classic The Sims 2 descriptions, people will love it! π₯°
Price: Set a reasonable price for your posters so your Sims can actually afford them, lol. Also, keep in mind that items in the Build/Buy menu are sorted by price.
Thumbnails:
Swatch Thumbnail: Choose a color for your swatch. DO NOT IMPORT IMAGES here, as it will unnecessarily increase your file size.
Catalog Thumbnail: You can import images here, because it will only slightly increase the file size and it's helpful for navigation. A custom thumbnail for your first swatch can make it much easier to spot in the Build/Buy menu!
Tags: Leave them as they are, but feel free to add "Color" tags if you like.

By default, the Sole Star Athletic Poster provides an Energized environmental mood buff with a score of 4.
Click on the Warehouse tab β Object Definition, and you will see two buttons:
EnvironmentScoreEmotionTags_32: Select the type of mood buff from the list.
EnvironmentScores: Adjust the mood buff score as needed. You have to put the specific values for some scores, use these as example:
15 = 1 score
204 = 2 scores
640 = 3 scores
35 = 4 scores
Important: Donβt forget to add the matching Tooltip Tags on the Catalog tab!

After completing the basic setup, double-check everything and proceed to add additional swatches and import image textures. Keep in mind that any additional swatches will have the properties of the swatch you selected when you hit the "Add Swatch" button, so make sure to add them only after the essentials are done!

Now itβs time to save your fabulous posters and check them out in the game! If everything is done perfectly, youβll have the most flawless posters for your Sims! If something doesnβt go as planned, feel free to leave a comment, and weβll troubleshoot together!
Once you feel confident with the basics, you can explore more features for your posters, like adding texture imperfections, aging effects, or experimenting with mesh deformations!
Happy modding, babes! ππβ¨
