Knock Knock update
Added 2021-04-25 02:00:00 +0000 UTCDiana and Zatanna went into battle as a unit against HYDRA, Diana going on the offensive while Zatanna hung back, using her magic to protect the civilians that were in danger.
“It’s been a while since I’ve tried knocking sense into some fascists!” Diana bellowed, her lasso swinging a power-suited HYDRA around as a blunt instrument with which to beat his squadmates. “These skulls seem as thick as the ones back home!”
She loosened the lasso, letting the power-suiter slip from it to go flying into a HYDRA mech-walker, whose armor he put an impressive dent in.
“Nrut otni sevod!” Zatanna cast, transforming a huddled group of civilians into a flock of doves before the mech-walker could overrun their position. As they flew away, the mech-walker took aim at them—
Suddenly, Spider-Man was there, the business end of a webline splattered on the walker’s sensory-dome. Spidey held onto the other end as he ran across the face of a nearby building, jumping to the next address in line, pulling the webline taut behind him so that the walker was dragged off-balance—like he was wrestling an aggressive dog back by its leash, though Zatanna doubted a hero like Spider-Man would ever be so physical with a real…
Wait…
“Sevod kcab otin elpoep!” she spelled, making the doves back into human beings. They’d settled on a nearby rooftop and they were stuck there for the time being, but at least they were out of harm’s way. She and Spider-Man apparently made a pretty good team—not that she’d be trading in Wonder Woman anytime soon.
The walker tipped over, crashing into an evacuated storefront, and Zatanna transformed the air inside the store into wet cement to hold the walker soundly.
“Hera, give me strength!” Diana barked, leaping onto the bent knee of another mech-walker, kicking off it to the chrome arm, then launched off that to go for the chest-mounted power core—her lasso wrapped around her fist, giving power to the punch she launched right through the thing’s thick armor. It buckled like paper under her knuckles and the walker went down.
“Swollip, swollip, swollip!” Zatanna cast, just to be on the safe side, breaking the walker’s fall when it went down. You never knew where the gas mains or subway lines may be in another dimension’s versions of New York.
“Hey, you guys mind if I park this here, I just need to pick up some take-out!”
Spider-Man came in, riding a spiraling hover-jet, his feet stuck to the chassis. He shot down weblines to either side of the walker and gave each a hard tug, sending the hover-jet screaming toward it. He jumped off before it crashed, finishing off both vehicles, while Diana sped away with the walker’s pilot in hand. She stopped next to Zatanna, while Spider-Man leapt into the air and fired off another webline to swing away.
Zatanna punched the walker’s pilot from semi-lucid into unconsciousness. “Thanks. I worried I wasn’t going to get my hands dirty today.”
“That man,” Diana said, her voice far-off. “The one in red and blue… does he seem familiar to you?”
“Spider-Man?” Zatanna asked. “Hold on…”
She pulled back her sleeve to reveal a bracelet centered around a small crystal orb. Holding it up to her eye, she scryed with it to Spider-Man’s now distant location and looked him over from a bird’s eye view—if that bird were trying to keep up with the webslinger as he made his impossibly fast way through the urban canyons of New York.
He was a looker, even in the zentai suit. Lithe though he was, there was nothing androgynous about him. Thick muscles bulged at his arms and thighs, while his slender chest was perfectly sculptured. And his ass…
Zatanna dropped her hand. “Peter!”
“That’s who he reminds me of,” Diana said, all but snapping her fingers.
“No, he is Peter.”
“You’re sure?”
“Unless he has a clone,” Zatanna quipped.
Diana thought it over quickly, as decisive now as she always was. “Peter Parker is Spider-Man,” she said. “He ditched us so he could come here and fight evil—that’s adorable!”
“Ssel semalf, hcum ssel semalf!” Zatanna cast, killing the firepower, literally, of a number of HYDRA troopers armed with flamethrowers. But already they were going for sidearms. “Wondy, remember we’re on the clock?”
“Right. Hold that thought!” She sped off, slamming through the HYDRA formation more like a bowling ball taking down tenpins than a warrior going into battle. An instant later she was back, and Zatanna had to flash a grin at her prowess. “But, I mean, Great Hera!”
“I know, right?” Zatanna replied. “This is going to be fun!”
***
Peter didn’t know whether he was just a world-class neurotic or if the universe really had it in for him. Maybe both.
Usually, he’d be pretty cool with two powerful superheroes helping him out. He’d be especially cool with both of them being beautiful, scantily-clad women. But, two women he’d just spent virtually all night sandwiched between—and as Peter Parker, not as Spider-Man—well, that was very nearly the bad kind of kinky. He wasn’t sure Zee and Di could ever actually be bad, but this was too close for comfort.
He really didn’t need them to recognize him or pick up his scent or see through his mask with X-ray vision… he didn’t know, he didn’t know all the powers of the people on his own Earth, not since all those Inhuman JV Squads showed up, how was he supposed to know what Wonder Woman’s power set was? You’d think she’d have something in common with Wonder Man, but apparently not.
With HYDRA either retreating or very neutralized, it seemed like his part of the show was over. The rest, Code Blue and Damage Control could handle. And he could get out of here before Diana and Zatanna overheard him say anything more than the odd one-liner, because he was pretty sure the Wisdom of Athena would be enough for someone to recognize his voice whether or not he was talking through spandex.
He held up his hand to shoot out a webline and swing off, but before he could get a reassuring thwip out of his webshooter, a certain golden lasso was wrapped around his wrist.
“Leaving so soon?” Diana asked, reeling him in, slowly, gently, but with irresistible force.
