Added 2020-12-14 00:14:52 +0000 UTCcompare Charlie's Angels to The Fast And The Furious, because they both know how silly this all is, but they also know how to play everything exactly like it's completely normal and logical, which of course is way, way funnier and more engaging than everyone riffing a bunch of improv lines about how silly things are.
Also--perhaps sensing that a parade of butts and boobs isn't the best place to talk politics--the social commentary shizz is limited to the Angels using kung-fu rather than guns, which is (almost) never commented on, and the Angels who are girls being able to do literally everything (which is the whole joke; they're so hypercompetent that they could beat Roger Moore's Bond in a trivia contest).
It's a level of self-awareness--maybe our guilty pleasure nostalgia bomb of a 1970s TV show doesn't have anything to add to the Discourse--that I miss from Hollywood.

Not as many butts and boobs as the old days - last few films, fast and furious have clearly been trying to avengers - but yeah, I agree.
