“And now let’s break for lunch!” the tour guide declared with a blow of her whistle.

Those she was chaperoning went off, all in different directions.

“Well, that sounds like it’s time for me to get back to the hotel and play around with the bidet,” Illyana announced, picking herself up.

“Feel like company?” Kitty asked, standing up herself.

“It’s a small bidet,” Illyana teased her.

“I’m a small girl.”

“Not where it counts,” Illyana said, smiling like something hungry.

She had no idea if Kitty meant her lighthearted flirtation, but she was determined to have her meaning it by the time they were through. There were all kinds of things that could be considered lunch, after all…

“You coming, Rachel?” Kitty asked.

“Nah.” The redhead stretched out against the back of the park bench, swinging out her supple legs until her heels scratched the pavement. “I think I’ll stay here and take in the scenery.”

“Don’t take in too much,” Kitty warned her. “You’ll have to buy bigger tampons.”

“Get her out of here, Yana, her filthy mind is offending my innocent neural patterns.”

Kitty let Illyana throw an arm around her and lead her away. She might’ve stayed with Rachel and watched the stranger in the dark pants, but she’d hate to throw off Rachel’s groove.

She knew she was a cute kid—that was what people kept calling her—and she’d had her fair share of fun, but she didn’t do lines of coke in public bathrooms and she didn’t join in when her friends gave tall, dark men come-hither looks. And while she didn’t think of herself as having low self-esteem, she also didn’t see herself competing for men with Rachel Grey, who had inherited all her mother’s good looks and gotten a little something extra from Scott Summers.

As Kitty and Illyana walked off, Rachel gave the man a wink. Thanks to a little telepathy, he happened to be looking at her when she did it. And though her mind might have given him a little nudge, the fact that the man smiled back was all Rachel.
