Well
Added 2022-10-28 10:05:23 +0000 UTCIt's taken some long nights, but I've gotten all 5100 words of this month's last commission done. There's some egregious POV-hopping, but then, when did the omniscient third-person viewpoint fall out of favor, anyway? Was it when 'omniscient' became so hard to spell? I only charge so much, you know. You can't expect limited third-person on a budget!

I think people kind of fell away from it once we started reading stuff like Harry Potter, where the 3rd person perspective was very much over-the-shoulder. Between that and ASOIAF, et al, people expect to have a specific character's POV. I think the trick to making an omniscient narrator nowadays is to give him a little personality. Not enough that it can irritate or distract, but enough so that the narration doesn't feel cold. Something like the narrator in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, maybe
