I think the flashback shows how they both start with very immature mindset where you think if you do something wrong you’re a bad person and you’ll always be a bad person where Cecil learns in an indirect way about forgiveness and how anyone can be redeemed no matter what they’ve done And just hasn’t learned that lesson yet but he’s on his way

2025-03-12 01:41:32 +0000 UTCHowever, I also think Cecil approach with Mark was insane and one of the worst ways possible instead of sharing his perspective and trying to mentor mark, he tried to teach him the hard way and Mark is obviously very stubborn and like Cecil said not open to other perspectives so both of them just clashing just made the situation so much worse that could’ve been frankly resolved if either of them had just taken a more understanding approach instead of assuming their way was right and just trying to force it on the other person

2025-03-12 01:35:20 +0000 UTCCecil and Mark’s ideologies are so interesting although I do like Mark’s I believe his is also very narrow and immature, it’s very black and white, doing a bad thing makes you a bad person. But it’s also very hypocritical where also wants people to forgive his father but won’t extend that forgiveness to other people who have also done wrong and want to be better. I haven’t read the comics, but my guess would be that it stems from how he views himself where he’s not very forgiving of his own actions or even actions indirectly caused by him, meaning he doesn’t love himself so he has a hard time forgiving other people who have also done wrong
