Extremely similar to Discord and Fluttershy! But this one drops the ball and as you said, plays too into rarity being selfish. Good twilight moment and also her fainting on the chair 😂

2024-12-13 09:33:17 +0000 UTCThe concept is pretty similar to that Discord episode from season five, and it had a big potential here since it tackled a fundamental problem of Spike and Rarity relationship - possessiveness from Rarity's side and Spike's absolute obedience to her. For Spike discovering new interests, hobbies and naturally moving away from Rarity's control was just a matter of time, so no wonder why she was so upset about it and wanted everything to be as it was before. The conflict itself makes sense, but unfortunately despite of it being a great opportunity to finally address and solve the issues of this bond the writers really overdid it with Rarity's ugly side. I would expect this kind of selfish and rude behaviour from Cozy Glow, but definitely not from Rarity. There was a flaw she needed to fix, but it was so exaggerated that she started to feel like a creepy parody of herself. I'm not against characters being flawed, but you need to know where to stop. Overall I don't hate this episode, but it could be a lot better.
