Skip Intro: The Punisher used to mean one thing, but now it means something else. It's been taken by a group that decides that it means this other thing, and that's what it means now. It's kind of like ... Me: ... Pepe the Frog Skip Intro: ... the Gadsden Flag Me: Oh

An Oni Moose

Thank you so much. When it was announced that he was returning I saw so man people who were excited and I was just disgusted. People will always try to defend the punisher by pointing out that there was a comic where the character calls out cops for having his logo on their car as if that makes things better but it doesn't. Cops don't read comics. Like it or not the punisher as a character has been normalized to be a fascist power fantasy. It doesn't matter if he was intended to be a deconstruction or not. It's what he has become and the fact that his stories inevitably kind of glorify violence on some level doesn't help. Not to mention all the times marvel makes the character look more badass by showing how his way is supposedly "more effective" than the methods of people like spider-man and daredevil. Thats why i hated daredevil season 2 so much. They position DD and the punisher as if they are both right and wrong to the point where they even have a black woman call frank castle a hero when he being out on trial for murder. Everytime the punisher is introduced marvel "both sides" the arguement. In seasom 2 of daredevil I thought they were going to have punisher kill Electra, who Daredevil had spent the whole season trying to save and redeem, to show why punisher's philosophy was fundamentally flawed but they didn't. He just shows up to kill a bunch of ninjas. It's time the punisher is put to rest. The character has done more harm than good. The only time I ever remotely liked the punisher in the comics was in ed Brubaker's Daredevil series, where Matt Murdock was in prison and encountered frank castle and castle explicitly told him "you don't want to be like me. Don't turn into me." Also, here is a fun fact about the punisher that people conveniently ignore. The character is canonical a child murderer. In frank miller's daredevil he busts a drug deal and when one of the dealers tries to surrender and drops his gun the punisher blows him away and then realizes that it was a kid. He is sad for a second and then goes "the enemy is using children! I'm being too SOFT. I need to take things to the EXTREME." The character only really works as an antagonist for daredevil or spidey. In fact he was created to BE a spider-man antagonist before he got popular. Anyways I'm sorry for the long comment but the fact that people accept the character so uncritically really frightens me, for obvious reasons.
