DOROTHY - Dorothy Gale Fabien Mense Designs Part 2
Added 2025-12-02 14:00:12 +0000 UTCLet's start with Dorothy herself. During most of development, the show was called "Dorothy Gale and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (a mouthful) but we eventually wanted to simply call it "Dorothy".
I've always felt she is the one character given a short straw in Oz adaptations and revisions. I love her the most of all the characters (well, matched perhaps with Ozma and Tik Tok), so I wanted her to be at the forefront.
The main adaptational change we made was that our Dorothy was from the modern day (as she would have been in 1900 when the book was written). Other than that, she was the same brave, smart and funny girl she is in those books.
The first slide is the design we mostly settled on, while the others are some further sketches by Mense.
