Here is the time-lapse speedpaint for Patrons🖌️ with music for: Masquerade

When you watch the video for this piece, you may notice how I struggle a bit with the crowd in the background. I was trying to figure out how to paint a background where there is a hint of other figures, like she really is stepping into a big masquerade ball, but not take attention away from her.

I started out by painting messy little human(ish) shapes and then I tried playing a tiny bit with how to position their arms and if I should paint masks on them or not. During this part of the process, I was trying to look at older oil paintings where there are crowds painted in the background but in a very loose way in order for them to appear more distant. It is a way to give the impression of the figures being out of focus in the background, vs. the crisp detail of the figure closest to us.

But then, as you can probably already see, I did end up just using the gaussian blur tool to blur both the background and figures, which I think helped solve my problems! haha! I did make sure to blur the figures that were further back more than the figures that are a little closer.

Anyhoo, overall, I think this piece flowed well. I felt fired up as I was working on it. I hope you enjoy this video! happy watching!
