Chapter 88: Specially Appointed Special-Class Demon Slayer
Added 2025-06-08 12:30:01 +0000 UTCThis was a very nice office, with a quiet environment and elegant decorations. However, the only strange thing was why a cute little girl was sitting in the chair.
Natsuki Minamiya’s expression was serious, but that seriousness paired with her adorable face made it impossible for Arthur to feel any tension at all.
“Um, is there a problem?” Arthur asked casually.
“Yes!! Where exactly did you come from? Why can’t I find any information about you, no matter where I search—online, in archives, even using satellite scans!” Natsuki glared at the two people before her. Originally, she just wanted to mark and register them, but now she realized she couldn’t find anything about them at all.
“I already told you, you generally won’t be able to find our information. You just need to know that I come from the Throne of Heroes,” Arthur shrugged, glancing around her office. Elegant and comfortable—not bad.
“By the way, do you have a guy named Kojou Akatsuki here?”
Arthur asked casually, but Natsuki’s indifferent expression immediately changed. She stood up abruptly as multiple purple-black chains manifested behind her. With a nervous expression, she looked at the two.
“As expected, I couldn’t hide it from you. You… you came for him.”
“Don’t be so nervous,” Arthur smiled. “I’m not here to hurt him. On the contrary, I’m here to protect him.”
“Protect? Sorry, my student doesn’t need anyone else’s protection.”
“You protect?” Arthur smiled again. A surge of powerful magic burst forth, accompanied by a gust of wind that shattered the floor beneath Natsuki. Arthur looked a bit helpless—he genuinely liked Natsuki. Serious, responsible, cute, with a touch of cunning darkness. But he couldn’t let her protect Kojou Akatsuki.
Of course, he didn’t intend to protect him either. He wasn’t anyone’s nanny. His approach was simple: if a Heroic Spirit appeared, he’d handle it. Guarding someone day and night? Sorry, Arthur didn’t do unpaid work.
“What, is my strength insufficient?” Natsuki stared at Arthur. She didn’t feel any overwhelming threat from him—though, admittedly, that was only because Arthur hadn’t revealed his full power yet.
Arthur didn’t respond. Instead, a golden greatsword materialized in his hand—the Sword of Assured Victory.
The moment it appeared, Natsuki was overwhelmed by a strong sense of majesty—the aura of a king.
Arthur didn’t bother explaining. Sometimes, actions spoke louder than words.
“In that case, let me test it out then!”
An invisible light shimmered on Arthur’s sword—the power of a king.
Caliburn.
Arthur activated the first effect of the Sword of Assured Victory and pointed it at Natsuki.
“You are not allowed to move.”
He didn’t use any complex spell—just a simple command. But that was enough. Natsuki’s body froze in place. (This didn’t mean she was weak. On the contrary, she was one of the top Demon Slayers on Itogami Island, with formidable strength.)
However, Arthur’s Sword of Assured Victory symbolized the authority of a king. Without the aura of royalty or strength equal to or surpassing Arthur’s, it was impossible to resist.
Of course, a very small number of individuals in the world could break free with unique abilities. For instance...
Arthur placed the sword aside and slowly reached toward Natsuki. At that moment, chains suddenly wrapped around her feet, and a magic circle appeared beneath her. In an instant, she vanished.
Spatial Order (Control) Magic.
Arthur immediately felt the connection sever. She had used spatial magic to escape his restriction.
A new magic circle flickered, and Natsuki reappeared, though her face had turned pale.
Just now, she had retreated a great distance to shake off Arthur’s control. But so what? In Arthur’s hand, a single strand of her hair danced in the air.
She had still been a second too slow. And in battle, a single second could shift the entire tide of war.
“How is it? Your opponents are all beings like me. Some are weaker, but a few are stronger. Facing such enemies—do you still have confidence?”
Arthur looked at her calmly. For her safety, he needed to make her understand the severity of the situation.
“Perhaps you’re right,” Natsuki muttered, her face now solemn. There was always someone stronger. Since he said he was here to protect Kojou Akatsuki, perhaps she should let him. If he had any malicious intent, she wouldn't be able to stop him anyway. She might as well trust him… for now.
“In that case, please guide me in the future,” she said, regaining her composure.
“Take care of me,” Arthur replied with a smile. “Though, if you don’t give me a registration certificate, where am I supposed to live?”
Arthur suddenly realized the obvious problem. Hearing that, Natsuki also looked troubled.
She hesitated before asking, “Then… do you really not have a hometown or anything? Or maybe… the first place you descended into this world?”
Arthur thought for a moment.
“My first descent… you can ask the War King. He should know.”
“The War King… The First True Ancestor, the War King!!”
Natsuki suddenly remembered a report she had received a few days ago. Even though the War King tried to keep it secret, there were no walls without leaks. According to intel, a terrifying being had descended and, with overwhelming power, wiped out everything in the War King’s domain. Even the War King’s 72 Familiars had been destroyed. After that, the mysterious entity vanished.
Could it be…
“You are… that mysterious power house!” Natsuki stared at Arthur in shock. Her wide eyes shimmered. Today alone, she had been shocked more than she usually was in an entire year.
“‘Power house’ is a bit much, but… the person you’re thinking of is probably me,” Arthur nodded with a smile.
Upon hearing his confirmation, Natsuki completely lost her composure. She rushed to the side, grabbed her phone, and made a call.
Arthur, meanwhile, pulled out a piece of chocolate and began teasing little Gilgamesh beside him.
Not long after, Natsuki returned and faced Arthur.
“I officially appoint you as a Special-Class Demon Slayer of Itogami Island! As my deputy, you will assist me in protecting Kojou Akatsuki. What do you say?”
“Having an identity will make things easier. Deal,” Arthur replied, extending his hand. “So, from today onward, we’re colleagues?”
Natsuki also reached out and shook his hand, symbolizing mutual goodwill.
What she didn’t know was that the moment she confirmed the information, the entire upper echelon had been thrown into chaos. They convened an emergency meeting for Arthur, ultimately deciding that Natsuki would be responsible for monitoring him.
But whether she could truly keep an eye on him… was another story altogether.
