Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone (Workingtitle)

Hi everyone, again, long time no post. But today I have something very special, at least to me ^^ : because I am happy to announce that my work on my gunman contracts standalone project is coming along very very well, in fact way better than I had hoped for and it probably will be entering a playable tech-demo phase not too far in the future.

I have been working day and night (well, mostly night) and gotten already very far considering the core of the project, so the game- and gunplay mechanics, which already feel very very sweet (I will post some gameplay footage soon, since I did not got around to shooting VR-Footage yet - no pun intended).

In terms of worldbuilding I have stuck to the "headquater" of my unknown gun for hire ... the shooting range in all new glory ... which will be the centerpiece of the project, with weapons to choose (and or store/unlock etc.), a shooting range/course to try them out and of course the briefing room in which contracts will be selectable. At least these are my plans so far. But nothing is set in stone yet, so I will post more details on it as I progress.

So far I aim to have this project be available on Steam as an early access project when the time comes, probably with very limited content at the start, and then plan to develop/add new content over time, like new contracts, guns, game modes etc. ... of course all depending on the reception of it all. But yeah, again, things can change, and I will keep you posted :-)

But some good news come with a flip side. This one is regarding chapter3: With this project coming along so great as it is, and its mechanics being already so much better than HLA (at least for what I aim towards), I have decided to lay my work on Chapter3 to rest. It was a very very hard decision to make, since a lot of work has already gone into it. But with its scope maybe around 50% completion, the work that still would have to be done is just too much. Being where I am with the stand alone project now, and having seen what is possible in game creation and how narrow and limited my possibilities with HLA really where ... I simply wouldnt be able to finish chapter3 as an HLA-mod - at least not with my heart in it. And as a friend said to me a while back: "If your heart is not in it, whats the point?".

I still am not ruling out to have a release of the work I have done in some form, since I really wouldnt want it to go to waste. But that aswell is being put aside for the time being. I hope you all understand.

So then, I will keep you posted on all that is happening, my progress and hopefully more good news in the future.

Cheers,

ANB_Seth

@Cuvington thx for praise and pledge :-) ... I am still in the development of the basics, like mechanics, controls, gunplay and enemy behaviour etc.. Made very good progress this week, playing it is so much fun for me already, but still so much to do XD ... thou I already cant wait to dive fullsteam into contract creation. My hope is to have this game sell good enough to make this a full time gig for me, where I could fully concentrate on in it instead of just in my spare time.

Hi Sven. I can understand your strain of thought, tbh hard to argue against. In fact I havent fully planned ahead of how to handle monetizing this endeavour of mine. Most of my time has/and is flowing in developing the game itself. On that side every donation here has really helped, since I have pretty much invested every cent earned here in assetpacks and plugins needed for this project. And since I dont know when a point will be reached when a paid version can pay the bills, I am still very thankful for every leg up I can get. However I get what you mean and dont want my patreons to feel taken advantage of or anything. So I was planning of having my longterm patreons to get something out of it, like e.g. free keys for the game if and when it hits the steamshop. But again, I havent really spend that much time on planning the economic technicalities of things and was/am soley focussing on creating the game. I wanted to make an annoucement on something like this once I know more myself :-)

I wish Valve would have released a full SDK, then mods like this would have freedom similar to Unity and could transition to full games in the same way as Counter-Strike etc. where appropriate. As things are, this seems like a wise decision. Since I guess the game will be paid and should bring in a lot of money if even nearly as good as the mod, though, to be honest I’m not sure there’s reason for me to continue donating. I’m fine with buying it once it releases without early behind-the-scenes info and such.
