This is kinda based on how people try to explain other cultures they aren't familiar with, anyone from that culture could point out where the facts end and the misunderstandings begin. Like, I live in Canada, and no it doesn't always snow here, we don't dip our currency in maple syrup, etc. And yes, these could just be jokes, but the same justifications can be applied to what Chit's saying here. She's telling a half truth to get through the conversation faster, real life gossip and commentary doesn't always give accurate information, people love to embellish.
