The Hunt for Red October (1990) FULL WATCH ALONG w/Coby

Comments

It clearly states in the membership you have to have your own copy of the movie for a watch along. They cant show the movie they’re watching for copyright reasons.

This is stupid... I thought there would be a movie. I guess I'll be canceling my free trial.

Ray Bellon

Coby, I highly recommend you continue with this series of films. The next two “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger” have Harrison Ford in the role of Jack Ryan. Ben Affleck plays the role in “The Sum Of All Fears” and Chris Pine takes over in “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”.

Robert Durant

That was good; finding movies you haven't seen is not easy. I think you would like "No Way Out (1987)" with Kevin Costner. This movie made me think of it.

My reaction to this post yesterday was, “Holy Shit!” I don’t know if there is a schedule posted somewhere or not. If there is, I don’t want to know. I’m enjoying the surprises. :-) Love this Movie. You don’t know who Jack Ryan is? What the… So this means we’re getting Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan films… Patriot Games (1992) & Clear and Present Danger (1994). Right????? Jack Ryan is not an action hero. He is a CIA Analyst. He is a bookworm that finds himself mixed up in the action from time to time. He is the wrong man for the job and the Right man for the job. He’s the Best Man for the job. I don’t know how familiar you are with the name… John Milius But, you ought to be by now. John Milius a very, very talented writer and director, who also went to film school with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. He was even sought after to do “script doctoring” on some major films. John Milius wrote the script for Apocalypse Now (1979). Milius wrote Quint’s USS Indianapolis speech in Jaws (1975). Milius edited the scripts for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) & Saving Private Ryan (1998). And John Milius worked on the script for The Hunt for Red October (1990). In 1975, Sean Connery starred in a film written and directed by John Milius, called The Wind and the Lion (Highly Recommended). Before the production of The Hunt for Red October, Connery called up the producer, Mace Neufeld, and told him that he didn’t think he could do the picture, because there wasn’t enough for him to do, such as speeches. Mace Neufeld’s office was right next to Milius’ and he remembered that Connery had worked with Milius, so he asked Connery what he thought of him. Connery said he loved John and asked if Neufeld could get him. Neufeld put the phone on hold, walked across the hall and told Milius what was happening and that Connery wanted some big speeches or he’s out. John said well I’m great at that. Thus the “Old Adversary” speech that Ramius gives to his men. This story and a whole bunch of others can be heard in the awesome documentary, Milius (2013). It is an amazing story about an amazing filmmaker, and it will explain why the name, John Milius is not more widely known today. If you, Coby, ever get around to watching Dirty Harry (1971), you will see another uncredited script job of John Milius’. The most iconic lines were written by him. He finally gets the full credit on the sequel, Magnum Force (1973). More John Milius films to see… Jeremiah Johnson (1972)… written by Milius, directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Robert Redford. The Wind and the Lion (1975)… written and directed by Milius, starring Sean Connery, Candice Bergen and Brian Keith. Big Wednesday (1978)… written and directed by Milius, starring Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt and Gary Busey. Conan the Barbarian (1982)… written by Milius & Oliver Stone, directed by Milius and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Earl Jones and Max Von Sydow. Red Dawn (1984)… written and directed by Milius, starring a “surprise young cast” if you haven’t seen. Highly Recommended. Mild correction note… when you thought that the Dallas was so much smaller than the Red October, actually the Dallas was far away in the background of that shot with the Red October in the foreground, because the Red October had turned, performing the Crazy Ivan maneuver, and was going around the Dallas. Really hope to see you continue with the Jack Ryan films. IMO, only the next two Harrison Ford films are of any major importance. After seeing Ford in the role, he will be THE Jack Ryan, I’m betting. The films after are ok, but never as good as the first 3. Lastly… Crimson Tide (1995) ought to be your next submarine film, if you haven’t seen it. Crimson Tide, what a Ride ;-)

Coby, loved your reaction! This is one my favorite "cold war" films. the cast is fantastic, and remember there was no CG back then, those helicopter drop-line scenes with the Los Angeles class submarine were absolutely real!! One real scary historical fact--the actual Typhoon class sub carried 20 ICBMs, each with 10 warheads, -so one submarine could destroy 200 American cities in like 30 minutes, that's how terrifying the Cold War was!!!!!

Chris Bruneau

Great reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️tell Coby it was the Uss Dallas Submarine that jumped out the water. Coby is a very intelligent Women. She has done one of the best reaction to this movie in my opinion 😃😃😃

Perry Campbell

I am excited to get into Jack Ryan. Let's throw in some Crimson Tide while we are here.

Great job as always, Coby... I have always loved this film. Three notes for this reaction... This was the Jack Ryan character's first film appearance, but Patriot Games ('87) was his first chronological assignment as portrayed by Harrison Ford. The character has also been played on film by Ben Affleck and Chris Pine, and most recently on TV by John Krasinski. The Russian-to-English changeover is a masterclass move by the filmmakers. In my worst Connery impression, I've worked "One Ping Only" into more conversations throughout my lifetime than I care to admit. lol

Crimson Ace

Yes! i love Connery, i love submarines, i love this movie!

Jan Sokołowski

Can’t wait to watch it. Most women have trouble following it. One of my favorite movies 🎥 Hope she loves it.

Perry Campbell
