I think you hit the nail on the head with the feelings about the torture porn. Anytime I see discussions about a certain character death being the turning point for viewership on the show, I don't think it's necessarily the death itself but how disrespectful the show was to its audience. Doing constant fake outs for a whole season, then leaving it on a one year cliffhanger, only to come back to an hour and a half torture porn premiere is what really turned people off from the show. It was a decent ride up until that point though

I tell everyone this show had some of the most creative and beautiful scenes in television and the practical and digital effects are on another level. Some establishing shots stick with me to this day and I’m glad more people are coming around to watching it from start to finish bc it deserved so much more recognition.
