What we know so far is that they are making other people to buy the old currency thinking that they will get a profit because the currency will increase its value after the new coin is introduced. What is going to happen is a devaluation of the currency, which means that the old coins will be less valuable as well even if the silver on those has not changed. You can always melt the coin and use the silver, but that is illegal and it takes time and money to separate the silver from the coins which means probably you will get even at best. What this company will do is to get those coins from those merchants that acquired a lot of those coins. Once they find out that the currency will drop its value they will want to cut their losses. Hence, the company can have a good price for those coins. Now the kingdom of Trenni needs those old coins to melt them and create cheaper coins and the company who has the biggest amount of old coins will have a way to bargain with the Kingdom and get a better price for the old coins. Of course to do that you need to invest a lot of money to get enough coins. Hence only a big company can do it.
