I enjoy seeing you get so worked up over this Togame situation. I think it’s an indicator of good writing.
When Choji hit him I was pissed too.
Also, Yes. Choji does equate strength with freedom and happiness. If you realized, before Choji used to only want himself to be strong. Once he became leader (and realized he wasn’t anymore free or happy than before) he extended it to the whole gang needing to be as strong as him.
I think Choji really lost himself in that pursuit of strength/happiness/freedom. Not realizing that he was already free and happy with his friends WHILE pursuing strength together. So he began chasing something that would never give him what he wanted because he already had it. And he just, descended into madness and despair.
Togame realized this but as he admitted, he didn’t confront Choji on this matter. Instead he chose to dirty his hands in place of Choji. He enforced Choji’s views on the gang. A very misguided but ultimately selfless act. I think he genuinely wanted Choji to attain happiness so he just did whatever he could do basically to assist in that. And then as things got worse he just became complacent in the situation.
It doesn’t make logical sense. But, it’s not supposed to. I think the writing is amazingly accurate to showing the complexities of real life emotions and relationships.

Togame is a very well written character, I hope after all this he finds his place as the leader of that group if not moving to furin. It's very easy to have a saviors complex, he blocked out the bad hoping his friend would get better and it just not gonna happen, that one kick from choji set him straight I think, that twerp is garbage and he's not worth associating with, I also think seeing the bofurin leader being an actual leader opened his eyes too.
I also think it's cute that Sakura dosent understand how he got mad for someone else, how he was ready to just in the cage with that to defend togame who he respects now.

Don't mind the people on YouTube, at least the ones that got all emotional. Clearly they're manga readers and have more insight on the situation here. They claim they understood from the get go but I call bs. They just want to feel superior I guess.
