So in the animated The Boys Diabolical it is shown that when V interacts with a form of cancer the v will take over the cancer and it will become it's own sentient being. Bizzarely this episode was mentioned as Canon despite involving none of the main cast. Also watching your reaction I noticed that Hughie's mum went into his jacket pocket when she tried to hug him so I think that's when she stole it. V has been public knowledge since episode 3 of Season 2 and she mentioned that she works for Vought so she would be well aware
