Dandadan ep 4

Dandadan ep 4

The location bound spirit was bound to the entire city. That’s why they had to leave that city. Ayase’s Granny’s powers only work in the city she lives in. Which is why they lured it to Kamigoe (the city where they live) Granny had two pillars wrapped in those barrier tags she had at the house, which is why turbo granny and the location bound spirit burst into flames and died like that.

I can understand how you feel about Dandadan cutting to humor a bit too quickly, and if it isn't to your taste, then that's okay, everyone has their taste. But, I'd like to add some perspective for how this is an interesting method of setting up a deep and serious story through character development. The small burst of serious moments portray the process of two reckless kids growing up and figuring out their motions, and it becomes especially intriguing from a romance point of view. Like last episode where Momo found out Okaru lived. She has a moment where she pauses and then proceeds to kick the door. That premature cut to humor from that serious moment demonstrates that Momo has uncertain emotions about the guy who shares small similarities to her celebrity crush, and she fights off those thoughts by being her usual feisty self. It's interesting because Subaru is written exactly like this in Re:Zero Likewise, Okaru does the same thing to hide the fact that he's nervous about making a new friend, and he's afraid of messing that up, so he cracks jokes to keep himself from bumming out Momo (though he still lets it slip sometimes). The small overarching lessons from the grandma show that they're supposed to be facts of life for Momo to think about over time, and it's a very interesting way to set up a more somber and serious story, imo. I personally see a process of two kids figuring out themselves as they goof off together like this, so i think you should try evaluating the show from that angle and see if it intrigues you.

Last week I said there’s no need for you react to this series if you’re not feeling it. I would just add that maybe there’s no need right now. Maybe this is a series you could come back to when you’re feeling more receptive to it. I’ve been watching Anime New Network weekly livestreams where they discuss this series and they have an interesting perspective on Okarun and Ayase’s relationship. They actually think it’s one of the most real and heartfelt relationships in anime. For them the humour and the bickering is what grounds the relationship and makes it more believable. The fact that they can bicker so much in some ways shows that they feel safe around each other.

For a number of years I listened to a podcast called Supergirl Radio that was covering the Supergirl TV series. One of the co-hosts of that podcast - Rebecca - loves Batman v Superman. She thinks that it’s the best superhero movie ever and full of depth and heart. She happens to be Christian and was going through breast cancer treatment at the time and found he movie spoke to her on a number of different levels. Rebecca was going through a dark time in her life and the sombreness of the movie matched her mood. Other people found the movie depressing and boring but Rebecca saw it as hopeful and uplifting. On the other hand Rebecca hates the Marvel movies because they are too jokey and she feels they undercut the serious heartfelt moments with too much humour. I find myself somewhere in the middle on this issue. There’s a good argument to be made that humour is an effective coping mechanism for dealing with the harsher aspects of life. We use humour to relieve stress, break tension or lift our moods. On the other hand sometimes we want to feel our negative feelings - sadness, grief etc. - to allow ourselves to work through them rather than just avoid them with humour.

Everyone has different tastes and the mood you are in when you are watching something also plays a part. There are so many factors apart from whether a piece of art is good or not that affect our enjoyment of it.

I have my hopes for this anime, is crazy and so random, but i really like the main characters, they feel so real 😁❤️

I've read pretty far in the manga. I'd say dandadan is a serious story (trust me. they glimpsed a little with turbo granny backstory) with silly plot and interactions (as they are teenagers) and good romance development. The main cast grows, and the story gets more serious over time. I still recommend watching it, but it's up to you if it's not really clicking. Also, I hope things get better for you with your depression.

Nice watch. Bless ya ma, I know depression is a bitch as one who teeters on that edge myself.
