Ignoring her half-sister having a fit behind her, Yukbeltire spoke to Yi-Han.
"More importantly junior. A request proposal letter came."
Yukbeltire held out the letter.
Looking at the contents written on it, the terms were very generous. It was a proposal from a magic workshop, and uniquely, it required both Yukbeltire and Yi-Han to come.
Yukbeltire would take the lead role while Yi-Han would assist.
Looking at the planned magic list, the work wouldn't take long and the difficulty wasn't high...
'For that kind of work, the compensation is too generous?'
While wondering, Yi-Han belatedly realized.
'Ah. The purpose is building connections rather than the request itself.'
Having received over dozens of similar purpose request letters even before re-entering Einroguard, he could recognize it right away.
The requests pouring in to Yi-Han now fell into two main categories.
One was requests truly valuing magical ability.
Requests sent by Jijel's father or Yonaire's sister fell into this category.
And the other was requests valuing reputation.
More than ability, they had a stronger purpose of building connections with the currently renowned Wardanaz family bloodline.
Though Yi-Han liked getting things easily, he couldn't easily accept such requests. They could become several times more troublesome than requests that were just work.
'Rather than attending social gatherings-balls-friendship meetings-exchange meetings-tea parties in succession right after arriving, maybe just working would be better...'
This request had clearly chosen both of them directly to build connections with not just Yi-Han but Yukbeltire as well.
Though her personality had many issues, looking just at magic ability, Yukbeltire was the next heir of Einroguard's enchantment magic school.
"The person who sent the request is clever. Sending to both rather than separately would have higher success rate."
The senior would likely cooperate to help the junior, and the junior for the senior's face, even if reluctantly.
But if there was one thing the sender misunderstood, it was the dryness within the enchantment magic school.
The relationships between enchantment magic school students had absolutely no cohesion.
"I'll decline for now, Senior."
"Why?!"
Yukbeltire's voice changed slightly as if truly surprised.
Though understandable for the emotional Direth, this junior shouldn't fail to see this proposal's value, right?
"Because I've received this many proposals already..."
Yi-Han unrolled a scroll with an apologetic look. Though only request titles were written, they filled the long scroll from end to end.
If it had been a trash proposal he would have just told them to get lost, but this one was actually decent so he felt slightly sorry.
"......"
Yukbeltire was overwhelmed by the junior's list of requests.
It was harder than expected not to be overwhelmed before that list.
Barely managing to nod, Yukbeltire staggered away. Watching her retreating figure, Adenart muttered worriedly.
"She seems quite shocked, I'm worried."
"She's probably just hungry."
"......"
Adenart looked at her friend as if dumbfounded.
Someone who treated same-year students as if he was their nanny was treating Yukbeltire like a Baldurguard student.
'Just what did you do...?'
"Wardanaz. Isn't there any way?"
After the senior left, friends asked for discussion with serious faces.
If the dragon had such a powerful scale relic, no lies would work.
"There is a way."
"!!!"
The friends' eyes wavered at Yi-Han's answer.
As expected of Wardanaz. To think of a solution in this situation.
"We tell the seniors to pressure His Highness Uman. If we can just stop him from using that scale..."
"Indeed! I'll go!"
Gainando and several students ran off to contact seniors from other years.
Ten minutes later.
Gainando returned trudging with slumped shoulders.
"...They said get lost..."
"What? Just like that?"
Yi-Han was startled.
Though understandable from other towers, treating juniors from the same tower so coldly seemed strange no matter how he looked at it.
"The seniors already knew..."
As soon as Gainando arrived, the seniors had said this:
-Wait, junior! Did you perhaps come to ask us to resist together against the rule forbidding making meals for other students or helping with assignments?-
-How did you know!?-
-Haha! Then get lost!-
-......-
The seniors had coldly driven Gainando away.
Yi-Han closed his eyes tightly and muttered.
"The Principal must have spread it."
"!?"
Actually, the fact that Yi-Han fed his friends wasn't widely known.
Starting from the kitchen club, since it wouldn't be good for others to know, Yi-Han hadn't particularly revealed it.
Even earlier most seniors hadn't noticed the hidden meaning in the rules, but to suddenly react like this...
"No matter what this is too much. Ruining tower matters because of personal feelings!"
"Right! To think seniors would act so emotionally. How disappointing!"
"If you're upset you should have entered a year later. Coming in a year early then acting like this!"
'Hmm. Good thing no seniors are around.'
Yonaire thought inwardly watching her friends' shameful behavior.
If seniors were present, they would have immediately attacked even same tower juniors.
And at the same time.
Similar things were happening in other towers.
-Senior! If we all cooperate to somehow relax that rule...-
-Did you eat from others last semester too?-
-That's not important.-
-Get lost!-
*
No matter how much the second-year students wailed, time flowed equally.
Next day at dawn.
Coming out for lectures, Yi-Han thought as he looked at Professor Bentozol's face.
'Could there be anyone else this happy at Einroguard right now?'
Even the skull principal freely indulging his spite probably wasn't very happy.
After all, the reality of an inspector coming to interfere remained the same.
Perhaps that reality made him more spiteful from annoyance.
In contrast, Professor Bentozol's face was happiness itself. If satisfaction and happiness were condensed and molded, it would probably look like the current Professor Bentozol.
"Hello, Professor."
"Ah. Good morning, Wardanaz. Did you sleep well?"
"......"
Yi-Han stared at the professor with eyes full of shock and horror.
Did he come to the wrong place??
'No. That's Professor Bentozol not Professor Garcia?'
Usually Professor Bentozol's greetings were one of: 'You came' 'Why are you here' 'You came again' 'Get lost'.
Yet such a gentle greeting. Even for a happy Professor Bentozol, it was unbelievable.
While bewildered, Yi-Han noticed the professor's eyes trembling slightly.
Though smiling happily, it was also an expression forcibly holding back emotions.
"...Professor. Are you forcing yourself to greet brightly?"
"I don't know what you mean, Wardanaz. Come in quickly. Don't you have a lecture to attend?"
"If you're doing this because His Highness Uman ordered it, you don't need to force yourself..."
"Won't you shut up? Get in quickly."
Showing his true colors, Professor Bentozol immediately growled.
He had been forcing out greetings that didn't suit his nature to look good to the dragon, but this annoying fellow was interfering.
"I'm saying this because I'm worried about you, Professor. If someone keeps forcibly doing things that don't suit them, it can hurt them instead."
"I can't hear you! Get in!"
Yi-Han looked at Professor Bentozol as if pitying him.
Though he thought the professor was happiest, it seemed Professor Bentozol also had inner pain.
'Just how much must he like dragons to flatter like that...'
Professor Bentozol's second semester lecture was <Just Terrible Creatures>. Compared to his first semester lecture <Terribly Beautiful Creatures>, it was a lecture name that clearly showed how things had changed.
Yi-Han checked his attire and magic. Not just Yi-Han but other second-year friends could be seen trying their best to raise their defenses.
"Damn. Who knew tree bark skin magic would be useful."
"Can't you cast some magic on me?"
"No way. What if the inspector checks later? If possible I would have already asked Wardanaz. What do you think will come out?"
"I just hope it's not a giant monster."
Though only a day had passed since the new semester started, the friends' faces somehow looked gaunt.
Gainando muttered in a mournful voice.
"It'll be that again for breakfast today right? That porridge made by crushing and boiling demons and chimeras together."
"...Though I'm curious where you got that expression from, anyway cheer up, Gainando. There must be a way."
"What way?!"
When his friend reacted too intensely to words said without much thought, Yi-Han was slightly taken aback.
He hadn't really thought about it...
"For example... well. You could go out and gather supplies yourself."
"......"
"Or you could wander around school raiding the Principal's warehouse."
"......"
Seeing his depressed friend about to sink into the floor, Yi-Han spoke urgently.
"Requests! There are requests too. If you go out on requests you can catch your breath!"
"!"
This seemed somewhat plausible as Gainando's eyes lit up.
"Right. There are requests!"
"Yes, Gainando. It's too early to despair."
"...But I don't think requests will come to me. I'm dark magic school."
'Oops.'
Yi-Han belatedly realized his mistake.
It might work for friends from other schools but had the opposite effect for Gainando.
"And we need to evade surveillance but if that lizard adds more surveillance we can't evade..."
"Look over there, Gainando! The professor is bringing a new animal!"
Though it was obviously an attempt to change the subject, Gainando fell for it.
Given the lecture name <Just Terrible Creatures>, it was hard not to turn and look.
"My goodness! It's a barghest!"
Barghest.
At first glance it looked just like a large black dog or wolf, but as a mage it was hard not to notice the negative mana dwelling in its fur.
It wasn't for nothing that it had the reputation as an ominous monster that brought death.
Just touching it wrongly could drain mana or life force and make one collapse, yet he brought such a monster.
As expected of Professor Bentozol...
"...It's a baby?"
"A baby... barghest."
The students who had been scared just hearing the name barghest belatedly realized its size and were bewildered.
It was an adorably tiny size. Perhaps because it was a baby, the amount of ominous mana wrapped around its fur was very weak.
'At that level there shouldn't be much problem even touching it?'
Yi-Han wondered.
To learn how to handle barghests they should bring an adult barghest, not a baby barghest that could be hugged and rolled around with.
He couldn't understand what the professor was thinking.
"Perhaps there's some dangerous aspect of baby barghests I don't know about?"
"I haven't heard of anything like that either..."
"Professor, why did you choose a baby barghest?"
At Yi-Han's question, Professor Bentozol's eyebrows twitched upward.
"What's wrong with a baby barghest?"
"Um... this is <Just Terrible Creatures> lecture."
"This is plenty terrible! Are you some imperial official defining terrible creatures?!"
"???"
While wondering in confusion at the raging professor, Uman appeared from behind.
"Ah. A lecture was in progress! Professor Bentozol. It is truly an honor to audit."
"I-i-i-i-i-it is more of an honor for me, D-d-d-d-dragon!"
Professor Bentozol answered flustering like a boy in love. Uman asked as if curious.
"It seemed you were angry at student Wardanaz just now, is that right?"
"...Not at all! That's absolutely impossible! We are very close. That Wardanaz bast... no, Wardanaz respects and cherishes me most among his teachers!"
"??"
When Yi-Han stared as if asking what nonsense this was, Professor Bentozol sent a desperate look.
Please!
Please!!!
At that desperate beast-like gaze of someone cornered, Yi-Han found himself opening his mouth without realizing.
"...Yes... well... in some aspects there might or might not be such aspects..."
"This is the first I'm hearing of this!"
Uman showed interest in what he just heard and remembered it.
To think he liked Professor Bentozol most among his various teachers...
