I have been wanting to do a “beach” shoot with Sian ever since our first shoot together three years ago. But not swimwear… it just doesn’t interest me. And I always had Studland in mind for it
Studland Bay in Dorset is a fabulous location. On one side of the road is the four-mile long sandy beach with dunes. And on the other side is a small secluded bay, with some sandy beach and some pebble beach, plus heathland. I’ve shot down there a few times over the years and I’ve always found the small bay to be much quieter than the main beach, so I decided that that would be where Asian and I would start off. I’d bought a handful of white dresses in various styles, and we shot a set in each dress. As usual there are a lot of photos I want to edit so please watch this space. Above are just one small set that I had time to edit before going on holiday.
Once we had finished in the bay we had a quick lunch and then hiked over to the main beach. About halfway along the beach is a “clothes optional” area. I have found this to be perfect for any sets involving nudity as we aren’t risking offending families, etc. And as long as I’m only photographing my model, the other beach users don’t seem to care. On the beach we shot a couple of sets in black dresses, very much inspired by the work of Peter Lindbergh, and then a handful of sets for a long term project I’m working on. My eventual goal is to publish a book of this project, but that is way off at the moment so I’m not giving much away about it.
