Hunkering down once more

Milton is now a category 5 hurricane and headed towards the gulf coast of Florida. We are not expecting a direct hit but I am hunkering down nonetheless since we will get tropical storm force winds here. Expecting lots of rain and more power outages. Maybe some time I will be able to stop preparing or cleaning up from hurricanes and I can get some art done. This is ridiculous.

Sounds familiar. But the outpouring of support and supplies was overwhelming. We has literally, mountains of clothes. We had to stuff a standard trailer van full of them and send them to Houston at Harvey's 2nd landing. They needed them more than we did.

Nobody gives a single fuck about rural Florida. We've already been forgotten in the headlines that the NC folks have been forgotten. But we're always prepared for that. FEMA doesn't exist to us.

And I thought Harvey was bad enough. It was a nightmare getting claims filed and the fuckup of a government operation named FEMA. They foisted us off onto the SBA for a loan to clean up. Fortunately, we have good life insurance policies where we could easily rebuild and pay off the loans we made off them.

I am still set up from Helene, don't worry. This is not my first hurricane. This is #4 just for this year. The first 3 were direct hits.

I bought a paid account to caution you. I evacuated 7 times in my 25 years living on the coast of Texas. Once a storm makes CAT 4, IT WILL BREAK RULES AND DO WHATEVER IT DAMN WELL PLEASES. I witnessed this with 4 CAT 3s and 3 CAT 4s, including Ike, Katrina, Harvey, and Beryl. With Harvey, we had less than 25 hours to pack, secure and leave. Do not fuck around with storms like this. Get packed to the point you will leave within the hour they call for voluntary evacuation.
