October Newsletter 🍂

Hi!

I think back to October 2019, when in addition to cool weather in Texas, we had Staple! Comics Expo to look forward to. I was also knee-deep in something-or-other for Check, Please!: Sticks & Scones, drawing and editing like a fiend and awaiting its April 2020 release. Man, that was a lot of work.

Someone recently described October as the Thursday of months, but how wrong—it's the Friday. There is still work to be done before total revelry begins, but it's practically the year's weekend. On Friday, the weekend seems like it might last forever. Similarly, October is magical because there's everything to anticipate, closer than ever.

Madison

NO TIME TO TALK. LOOK AT THESE FINISHED PAGES.

This month! Coloring Madison pages! finishing a project I started in 2015! Gah!

Barda

If my obvious hinting didn't clue you in, then I'll be very clear! I'm working on a Barda GN for DC Comics. (May the kind rulers at WarnerMedia strike neither me nor the project down!) This Barda project is different from Check, Please! in about a hundred ways, but possesses the same warm Ngozi "core", let's call it. It's about the sheer luck of finding love while feeling unloved. It's about taking down your bullies. And, most importantly, it's about a 7-foot tall mean lady slowly falling in love with the tiniest, brightest ball of sunshine ever. ( Ah—my producers are informing me that this was not the plot of Check, Please!)

It sure is fun writing a bunch of rotten scoundrels.

ECCC

Believe it or not, the advances of modern medicine and Reedpop's new COVID policies have created a slim chance that I will be able to attend Emerald City Comic Con! I know, I'm shocked as well!!! If I do end up going, you'll know in the next Patreon newsletter. I've missed Seattle, I've missed gabbing with readers, and I've missed roaming the indoor farmer's market of creativity that is the ECCC artist alley.

Let's hope all goes well! And that's all from me. Thanks again!
