An octopus hold is a pretty good way to tie up an enemy and put a ton of pressure on their spine. Once locked up, every single one of the victim's limbs are controlled and there's little left to do but tap. That said, it's an awkward hold to apply, and puts a good amount of pressure and discomfort on the one applying the hold as well.
