Originally I was planning to go for the Super Mario Bros 3 exact appearance for the BG, but I decided to soften some black elements on it. In my opinion, it was becoming too visually distracting...

Based on a suggestion made by CJ.
I wanted the artwork to have a similar art style to the oficial illustrations of Okami. Hence, I experimented a bit with the coloring, I added some textures, and I tried to give a natural feel to the outline brush strokes. I hope you like it :)

Since I was going to share this artwork outside my Deviantart gallery, I decided to make some changes to it. I didn't changed the estructure of the drawing at all, I just adjusted the color values and added more light effects to it, plus the glasses.
