Almost done with the new chapter :D

Fanime is coming up in a few days (I'll be in the Artist Alley at table 1202) and I'm doing my best to finish and post the chapter before I leave. So far it's looking good and I should be able to release it in 2 days unless I run into some 3D software bug.

Almost naked Vance will be making a brief appearance as well ;p

20 Minutes from 3D to finished panel

It took forever to make the models and set the scene up, but when it comes to actual comic making, it took only 20 minutes to paint over the 3D render (seen below) into a finished panel :)

Jen Model making an appearance in the new chapter!

My team just finished the Jen model who will be appearing briefly in the new chapter :) She was definitely one of the harder models with all her gadgets. Her jacket cape was purposely not included because flowy fabric is very hard to pose in 3D and it would just be faster for me to draw it, but everything else is a huge time saver :)

I wasn't really happy with my last smog mask drawing so I scrapped everything for the 4th time and started over, this time with more photo references than before. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it this time.

This took a little over 2 hours. I was going to add a human figure but it ruined the composition so I added a few birds instead :)

WIP

My last painting used a 3D background, in this drawing I wanted to show some shortcut techniques when painting backgrounds in 2D. The current work in progress took about an hour. Next I'll be adding the maple leaves and figure.

The entire thing took about 6 hours, 1 is setting up the 3D model, the rest are recording painting process.

Testing out Vance's dorm in Blender

I originally made the room in Sketchup but that program can't handle character models so everything is being converted into Blender by my team. 

Here's a quick test render of the room to make sure all the textures were transferred properly. And yes, that is a body pillow on Vance's bed :p

I love plants <3 they add so much life to everything. My own house is covered in plants, one day I'll live in a jungle~

WIP closeup

I felt a little better after more rest so I started working on the figure, it's not done yet but coming along. This is about another hour of work, I also touched up more on the background, though it's hard to tell from here.

1 hour wip from since yesterday

Here's an update from yesterday's wip. I was only able to work one hour on it today because my mystery illness flared up again this morning and I had to rest in bed until 5pm :( 

I really hate how unproductive I've been due to whatever has been making me  sick for the past 3 weeks, I really though it'd be over by now but it keeps coming...

I was feeling totally fine yesterday morning but by night time I started coughing, a fever, and this weird convulsion that I never had before. I was supposed to be meeting everyone at the SF Cherry Blossom Festival today but I ended up staying in bed instead.

My guess is that I never completely recovered from last time and it flared up again...

Legacy

The recent news about the dead sperm whale found with 64 pounds of plastic reminded me of my old painting about plastic pollution. 

I hope we'll leave something more beautiful for the future generations than this. Small things like recycle and don't litter will make a world of difference.
