Captain T Development Blog #1: The File

I recorded my first livestream development blog for Captain T yesterday. It's mostly me rambling and looking over files from over the years pertaining to my story. I'm going to edit these down for my YT channel which has -like- no updates.

More Sarge work

This is pretty close to the final Sargent design. You can see the physique underneath the trenchcoat and how it obscures his anatomy a bit. I want to know where to put the bulges for his knees and heels when he walks or squats.

Stowaway design for Captain T

Very similar to other characters I designed, the Stowaway Addie is fun. You can see the height chart in the bottom left hand corner.

I'm on the fence if I want him to be "animal like," when he runs or jumps somewhere or if I want him to be more human like. This is the "animal like" stance.

Working out some page layouts for the new book. It feels good to say that. We're still a long way off, but we'll get there.

New Prompt Schedule!

Hi again. Rather than go back and play catch up for all of the days I missed when I was on hiatus, I'm going to pick up where we left off. This leaves 20 prompts for the month of June rather than a full list. I am playing catch up in other areas of this Patreon and art in general, so I'm okay with missing a full month to just get back to prompts...

Hiatus has commenced!

Hello!

I went on a brief hiatus last month with no updates due to the broken wrist. I could have uploaded old sketches like I did for the month of April, but opted instead to concentrate on other horrors that happened in my life over the past month. This included our laundry room flooding due to our upstairs neighbor's water heater leaking...

Wedding Portrait

When I worked at that art gallery as a curator, we had one client who would come in all of the time with large parties for the drink and paint classes. She commissioned me to paint a wedding portrait for her friend. This is the final product with some progress pics. I never met the couple, I only worked off of a photo.

The Pocket Step!

I'm only 5'3" which is not very tall. I often need to get things from high shelves and I can't always carry a step stool with me. So this is a sketch of a "pocket step," device that would allow me to get things high up in public places without having to ask a beanstalk to do it.

Mermaid sketch

This is a drawing of a mermaid with balloons. I have nothing else to add.

Other humans?

In the world of Captain T, humans exist, but I want there to be very few of them. This is a sketch of the style I'm going for with the rest of humanity.

Loose Pencils Inking Challenge!

This is a VERY loose sketch of an old flintlock pistol. I put it on twitter to see if anyone wanted to ink it. We'll see if I get any bites. If so, I'll post them here.

Hyena and Lion Enclosure at the Denver Zoo

It was a hot day so the lions and hyenas were all sleeping out of view of park guests... so I drew the rocks instead.

Before I draw page layouts, I work out my pacing with little thumbnails of the panels. This is a scene where T is crossing passed a group of other adventurers teasing him about his ship.

Paint by number me!

One of my many day jobs I've had was as the curator of a small art gallery that also did drink and paint nights. They were experimenting with this company where you submitted a photo and they made a paint by number canvas for you. This was mine. Captain T smudgy sketches

This was the page opposite the Addie sketches from yesterday, so you can see what I mean about the drawings rubbing up against each other. I think this sketchbook is the worst culprit of that, but I have boxes more of them.

I broke my wrist.

New drawings are going to be delayed for a while but I'll still continue to update with sketchbook stuff. Keeping you in the loop.

Addie the Stowaway Sketches

This is kind of a dirty page because I was using pencil in a loose leaf sketchbook (when tight bound sketchbooks work best). The pages rubbed together leaving messed up drawings.

Under the smudges are mood gestures for The Stowaway.

The tall stranger is a well-refined razorback hog. I like the idea of this grizzly angry beast trying to be a tea drinker and high class. He's still gruff... just well dressed.
