July Progress

It turns out that returning home is not that easy either. Right now, most of my time goes to commissions to earn money and find a way to return home or settle down elsewhere. I did manage to find some free time to make some progress on the scene I've been working on for the last few months (hurts even to think about how slow my progress is right...

June Progress

It seems I've jinxed it. Turned out the information I found this March stopped being accurate this May so all my plans were ruined and I spent the last two weeks trying to find affordable rent. I failed because there is a constant worker movement because of a government renovation program so there are no affordable apartments. Those which remain...

May Progress

The situation is got stable enough for me to start getting back to working on the cartoon. I picked up from the scene I started back in February and mostly finished the rough frames.

I can't build up speed as fast as I'd want to but at least it's ...

A long month

At 5:15 in the morning of the 24th of February, I and my wife were woken up by three distant explosions. Later we learned that it was a Russian guided missile strike on a military airbase nearby. We knew the war had begun even before we checked the news. We gathered out papers, took a bottle of water, and ran to the basement which was marked as ...

Still alive

Me and my family are fine. We moved to a safer zone and I will resume working as soon as we find an apartment to rent.

Force majeure

Due to the escalation of Russian aggression I and my family are in a very unstable position here in Ukraine. For now, I need to spend more time on work to create a financial buffer in case things go from bad to worse. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. If I'll be alive I'll get back to work on the cartoon as soon as I can.

Apology about WIPs

I want to apologize to all people who are or were patrons on tier Invested ($10) and Generous ($20) for my failure to provide WIPs of published scenes. I published one WIP for scene 020 with a low-quality gif. I wanted to find a better way to publish them but after a couple of failures, I got distracted by work and forgot about it. I'm sorry. If...

January Progress

This month I finished one scene. I'm still struggling to find the balance between earning money and working on the cartoon. Thanks to you I have one week a month I could spend on my cartoon. If it wasn't for you I'm not sure where this project would've been....

December Progress

Still learning to draw human interiors. This month I finished a background used in 2 scenes and character animation for them. One scene was published. And now the year ends and I'm hoping the next year will be better for all of us.

MOTION DETECTED!

MOTION DETECTED!

Lydia installed infrared motion detectors on her van and programmed the surveillance monitors to turn on so she could check if there is any danger at any time. Sometimes it's nothing. Sometimes it's better to drive away urgently.

November Progress

I feel kinda stupid because in all years I've been drawing, I almost never drew buildings or room interiors. Now it's hitting me but I'm learning and finding my own workflow on interior backgrounds. Kinda proud of the result.

In November I finished an ...

Well. This scene took me even longer to finish than scene 022. At least this makes work on other scenes of that sequence much easier. Probably I'll be able to make more than one scene next month.

Buildings. Why are buildings so difficult.

This months I was working on materials for the convenience store sequence and the establishing shot of it. The establishing shot also acts as the concept art of the store and I'll use it as a guide for the scenes in sequence.

September Progress

Kinda embarrassing to admit but I spent almost a week trying to design one of the grocery store scenes. Then I realized that not having a layout of the scene was much bigger problem than I thought.

The scene either caused some inconsistencies or w...

Trying on

Trying on

While scouting Lydia noticed a cute sundress on a shopfront. The window was already smashed by someone, so she carefully got in. When she was sure nobody and nothing was inside, she took the dress and tried it on. The size was right, and she loved how it looked on her. Happy with her find, she returned it to the shopfront and left, naively hopin...

For six weeks straight the temperature in my apartment was between 30°C and 33°C with rare nights having around 28°C. This severely affected my productivity. Because of this, it took me embarrassingly long to finish the commissions and the scene. At least...

Sorry. It seems I wouldn't be able to finish the scene in time. I just started working 2 days ago but the hardest part is finished. I just need to make clean lines, shading, and the background and that's pretty straightforward. Should be another 2-3 days.

Update: Finished

June Progress

The heatwave is hitting me hard. So hard that only now I noticed that I didn't make the monthly progress report. I feel so ashamed...

Under summer heat I only had enough energy to make one scene. The scene is marked 001, but there will be introduction scenes before that when I figure out what I want there.

Scene 001

The first scene in the spike-faced mutant sequence is the last to be finished. When I was working on the background I realized that it takes way too much time to build the background and I often break the perspective. I want to try to make a 3d model of the area and use it as a guide. So for now I'll leave complicated backgrounds for later.

Lydia's sight is far from perfect. Most people with albinism have astigmatism and many other eyesight problems. At the post-production stage I'm planning to do a better research on the issue and edit every "Lydia's vision" scene to look authentic. So they were accurate to the way people with albinism see the world.
