I always publish a synopsis of the film when I'm casting, and actors react either positively or negatively based on how interesting the plot is to them. The films with good plots get lots of submissions. And that's true of 'Else...

Most of the time, when I have a newscast running on TV I overlay the image in post production. But for an upcoming short, I needed the image to be projected on the TV. Soooooo, I shot the newscast, uploaded it to a YouTube channel, and will run it in the background.

Casting!

Ok, I won't be able to shoot this upcoming week, I have jury duty as I've mentioned, but I'm putting out casting notices for August. I want to get back to shooting, and I'm particularly anxious to get to 'The Apartment At The End Of The Hall'.

Mic

Got a new mic, which is reason for joy. The old one had a frayed connection and gave me havoc with the sound on the last film (I've spent 2 weeks doing sound editing alone). So I'm happy to have this new piece of equipment. Especially as I'm gearing up for another film, as soon as I'm done with jury duty...

Screening

I screened 'Rubicon' in its finished form for the actors, and these were the responses I received. Always nice when the actors are happy and proud of their work.

I run a small operation, and sometimes actors are a little skittish over what the final results will look like. I love it when I exceed their expectations.

Real? Fake?

This will be in an upcoming film, one with a very epic scope. And may include a brief appearance by Picasso himself.

This is going to be a weird one...

Jubilation!

The test results are back and I don't have the new BA.4 or any other version of Covid. The actor who did have the ailment I haven't heard from, though I emailed him the other day. Hope he's doing well. And no one else in the cast and crew reported getting Covid.

So next week I'll be back to casting and shooting!

When I cast actresses, and as I often use nudity in my films, I'm assiduous in making sure they are not just of legal age for appearing nude on camera, but a comfortable distance beyond. I'm less careful verifying the age of men in my films, as it's rare that I have even a shirtless man, let alone nude.

Time on my Hands

With my...enforced and unplanned time away from shooting, maybe I'll finally edit a trailer for Rubicon.

As with shooting a film, you've got to have a theme for your trailer - after all, it has to tell its own story and have some sense of a narrative. And I think I might have hit upon an angle for it.

Spending my day selecting and purchasing props for the next 3 films off of Amazon and eBay. There's a couple of hundred dollars spent.

And I've got two websites to design for films, and a book cover to design and print.

Oh, and casting - but that doesn't start until next week. Never sit around - there is no such thing as "down time"....

Editing

Editing's going fine on the new projects. The trailer for 'it/they/them' is coming out this week.

This Week

I won't be doing any casting or shooting this week, just editing on some of the already shot films. This being a holiday week (July 4th) no one's in town, and access to any actors is limited.

But I'll be back at the casting beginning next week.

Editing means you might get a new trailer for something during the week!
