Chrome pole vs silicone

I get a lot of questions about how I'm gripping the pole in clothes, or what it's like to use a silicone pole, so here's a breakdown of the main differences between the two pole types that I normally use.

Setting up a Stage Pole

I thought I'd show you this process! This whole thing took about 7 minutes, plus a few minutes more to get everything out of the shed first. There's enough weight there that this is basically part of my pole warmup at this point!

Superman Tips: Conditioning

Superman is often given a bad rep, because it's easy to get to intermediate level with little to know conditioning for this particular hold, but if you prepare regularly, it won't hurt nearly soo much, and can become a very solid move!

Dance Belts: a Simple Solution to the Perceived Problem of Testicular Torsion

A little Behind The Shorts peek here! If an impromptu conkers bout with the old family jewels is a thing that concerns you about pole, I can highly recommend a dance belt! It won't solve all your problems, but when combined with the right technique, it does the job!

What Pole Dance does to your body!

This has been a busy week, so it's a great time to talk about Pole Bruises!

Bruises are a normal part of doing a high intensity activity like pole, and although your body can get used to it, and your normal moves will hurt less, there are SO MANY moves to do that you will always encounter some that you aren't conditioned for (or you'll do ...

Invert Tips (part 6): Progressions

So far I've mostly covered invert for people who are still working towards a strict lift. But what if you already have that?

Here are some ideas of progressions that you can try working on to make your inverts even more impressive!

Invert Tips (part 5): Regressions and Alternatives

Another alternative to the lifted invert is the reverse invert, which looks like this. It can help to build familiarity with moves like leg hangs and flatlines, but it doesn't generate as much space as a lifted version, so it can be tricky to keep the height needed for more elaborate moves or combos. Remember to engage your core on the descent s...

Invert Tips (part 4): Regressions & Alternatives

Even if your invert isn't 100%, there are ways that you can get upside down to start working on inverted moves like leg hangs. The first of these is a kick. As long as your grip is strong and you can engage the shoulders, you will be able to do these safely, but listen to your body, and put mats down if you need to.

Invert Tips (part 3): more positioning and progressions

A continuation of the previous video on getting started with inverts. This video covers some of the starting progressions to help build up to a full lifted invert.

Invert Tips (part 2): Prep and Positioning

Because inverts are fundamentally a strength-based move, it's worth doing some prep between sessions to make sure you're ready for them. I'll go into more depth on some pole workouts in future posts, but here are some ideas. positioning and getting started is continued in the next video, but I can only post up to 2 minutes at a time!

Invert tips (part 1): what is it?

Inverts are a gateway move in pole, but they can be very hard to learn for some. While you might be able to kick safely into an invert, it's worth working on your form for stricter ones, as the more confident you are with them, the safer and more accessible your upside-down moves will be!

Cupid Tips (part 3): Technique

Cupid is one of those fiddly moves that can be hard to get right, and just a slight adjustment to how you position yourself can make a huge difference to how difficult the move feels. Take some time to try adjusting your leg position, and body height relative to your top knee, and don't forget to push your hips forwards!

Cupid Tips (part 2): training, preparation, and getting started

If you're looking to work on your Cupid, here are some prep and training moves that you can do on and off the pole to help prepare for the move itself. While it's tempting to just throw yourself at a move, this sort of prep can be crucial for making the most of your available pole time!
